Seventeen-year-old Abdi Ali disappeared in London in December 2017. Prosecutors said he was murdered by Gary Hopkins inside the home Hopkins shared with his partner and their three young children. After the killing, Hopkins allegedly wrapped Abdi’s body in a duvet cover and carried it into the attic.

For the next eight months, Abdi’s remains remained hidden above the family’s living space while police investigated his disappearance. Hopkins eventually exposed his secret while threatening another man, claiming he had killed before and that the victim was “in the loft.” He later showed visiting friends the location where the body had been concealed.

In August 2018, police searched the attic and discovered Abdi’s remains, along with the weapons believed to have been used in the murder.

Hopkins was convicted of murder in 2019 and sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 22 years.

In early 1984, Christopher Wilder launched a violent cross-country crime spree that lasted roughly six weeks and took him across numerous states. He often approached young women and girls at shopping malls, posing as a photographer searching for models. The seemingly harmless opportunity allowed him to gain their trust before revealing his true intentions.

Over the following weeks, Wilder traveled thousands of miles while police across the country tried to track him down. At least eight women were murdered, while several others survived their encounters with him. Investigators knew who they were looking for, but Wilder’s constant movement from state to state made it difficult to predict where he would strike next.

The nationwide manhunt finally ended in April 1984 in New Hampshire, where police confronted Wilder. During the confrontation, a struggle broke out and Wilder was fatally shot with his own gun.

Even after his death, investigators continued examining unsolved disappearances and murders, some of which they suspected might have been connected to Wilder.

Richard Dyson was reported missing in November 2019 after failing to meet his daughter, Bethany—a Sunday routine he had reportedly kept every week. Investigators soon learned that Richard had been in contact with farmer Christopher Wright shortly before he disappeared, but at the time, there was not enough evidence to determine what had happened to him.

Almost six years later, Detective Constable Tom Ryan took another look at a brief 39-second phone call Wright had made shortly after Richard vanished. The call led investigators to a crucial clue: the man who received it had recorded details of the conversation in his diary and still had the trailer Wright had asked him to store.

Police searched the trailer and made a shocking discovery—a blue barrel containing Richard’s remains.

Investigators concluded that Wright had shot 55-year-old Richard with a sh***un before concealing his body inside a barrel filled with concrete. The trailer was then left on property belonging to another person.

Wright was convicted of Richard’s murder in July 2026. The following month, he was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of nearly 34 years.

Nearly six years after Richard disappeared, a 39-second phone call ultimately helped investigators uncover the truth.

On May 4, 2016, 23-year-old Justus Booze arrived for his first day with Countryside Tree Service in Guilderland, New York. As part of the crew, he traveled to several job sites, where he helped process branches and other debris through a wood chipper.

At the crew’s third location, Booze was working near the chipper. Moments later, his employer heard an unusual sound coming from the machine. When he turned around, he discovered that Booze had been pulled into the wood chipper.

The machine was shut down immediately, and emergency responders were called. Despite their efforts, Booze was pronounced dead at the scene.

An OSHA investigation later found that Booze had not received adequate training on the safe operation of the wood chipper. Investigators also determined that employees were exposed to the machine’s moving parts and that proper procedures for feeding material into the chipper were not being followed.

OSHA cited the company for willful and serious safety violations. For Justus Booze, what should have been his first day at a new job became his last.
