If you go strictly based on canon for Dragonball, the manga specifically, you can ignore all of the filler and any movies you think may fit. But, here's my take on what ACTUALLY can fit into just the anime itself and I'll explain why.

Dragonball - > Dead Zone - > DBZ (Coolers revenge, Bojack Unbound, Wrath of the dragon) - > Diama - > DBS - > Broly movie -> Super Hero (fill in the rest with manga so far).

1. Dead zone works because there could be an implied meeting between Piccolo and Gohan, he's 4, suffered great trauma, may have forgotten a lot, whatever. Also fits to the filler arc in DBZ where Garlic Jr. Returns. You can toss it out, but as far as anime continuity, it's heavily implied twice that he was a threat.

2. Coolers revenge works because there's no inconsistency whatsoever. After frieza, before the androids, Gohan is allowed to cut his hair, and this is in the 3 year time gap between sagas. Vegeta is still training off world.

3. Bojack unbound and Wrath of the dragon just fit flawlessly with no inconsistencies, after Cell and Buu, respectively. Even daima has a couple of Toriyamas favorite plot holes but that can be fixed later.

There's literally only one way to watch Dragonball Z, the Bruce Faulconer dub. If you wanna watch Kai just read the Manga. Also forgot I had the Sparking Zero guidebook in japanese that I picked up in Tokyo this past October.
