One lesson I wish younger me learned sooner was to value myself and my rate better.

When you need money, it is easy to say yes to anything. Bad-fit clients, underpaid work, unrealistic expectations, projects you already know are going to be a headache. But being thirsty or desperate rarely leads to good decisions.

Sometimes the better move is protecting your time, your standards, and the value of what you bring, even when saying no feels uncomfortable.

Not every dollar is worth earning.

I’m doing my best to be professional, understanding, and reasonable.

But if you ask me to discount work I already priced fairly, it’s probably gonna be a no from me, dog. Please go somewhere before I stop being nice about it 😂

Respect the work. Respect the rate.

You would not go to a mechanic for medical advice just because they are great at fixing cars. The same logic should apply when you are taking advice about your career.

I have wasted money as an independent creator listening to successful people give confident advice in areas they did not actually have real skill or experience in. Content is a big one. A lot of successful people are not making, editing, testing, or managing their own content day to day, so their perspective can be very different from what an independent creator actually needs.

There are exceptions, especially the independents doing serious work in the DIY space, but success in one field does not automatically transfer expertise into another.

Pay attention to who actually does the work you are asking about.

Hey Artists: Make Long-Form Content 🎥

Long-form content gives you more than one thing to post. It gives you a source to pull from.

One solid video can turn into multiple short clips, quotes, moments, and ideas while also helping you build stronger audience retention and creating more opportunities for monetization on platforms designed for longer viewing.

Short-form can get people to notice you. Long-form gives them a reason to stay.

She was right. Even when life gets busy, bringing people along with you should not have to become some huge production.

It is easy to get so focused on making the bigger, better, more polished content that you stop showing up at all. But sometimes the better move is just documenting what is happening, sharing where you are, and letting people see the process even when it is not perfectly packaged.

The bigger content can still come. Just do not disappear while you are making it.

Show up however you can. Imperfectly still counts.

There is only a way that works for you, your brand, your audience, and the kind of content you can actually make consistently.

Most people need more reps, not more rules. Posting gives you data. Data shows you what people respond to. That is how you start learning what works for your niche instead of guessing forever.

And if someone claims they already know exactly what you should be doing without understanding you, your brand, your audience, or your goals, be careful. Good strategy needs context.

Post more. Study the response. Adjust from there.

Marketing Isn’t About Being Liked 🎯

A lot of artists misunderstand what marketing is actually supposed to do. The goal isn’t to convince everybody to like you. It’s to find the people who probably would’ve connected with you anyway, then use marketing and branding to reach those people more effectively.

That gets complicated because a lot of artists are insecure deep down and naturally want approval. So instead of using branding to communicate who they already are, they start changing themselves trying to become more likable. That’s when marketing starts feeling fake.

The goal isn’t to become something more marketable. It’s to communicate who you are clearly enough that the right people can find you.

One reason scammers can thrive in this industry is because sometimes they look more organized, more visible, and more polished online than the people who have actually spent years doing the work.

If you are an industry professional with real experience, relationships, credits, and history, that legacy deserves the same level of care online that you have given your career in real life. Your website, content, social presence, and the way you tell your story should make it easier for people to understand who you are, what you have done, and why your voice carries weight.

That matters even more for independent artists trying to figure out who they can trust. The more clearly legitimate professionals show up and share what they know, the easier it becomes for artists to recognize what real experience actually looks like.

And if telling that story is not your strength, there are service providers like myself who would be happy to help. Especially when better storytelling means giving independent artists access to real information, real experience, and people who have actually earned their place in this industry.

Your career already has the story. Sometimes it just needs the right presentation.

Bitter Pills for Bigger Goals 💊 Vol. 2: If you value the relationship, have the hard conversation.

Trying to “let things go” is not always the mature move people think it is. Sometimes it just means resentment gets quieter instead of the problem getting solved.

If a relationship actually matters to you, especially a professional one, you have to be willing to talk about what is not working. Expectations, boundaries, communication, money, effort, credit, respect. The uncomfortable conversations are often the ones that give the relationship a real chance to grow instead of slowly falling apart under things nobody wanted to address.

Avoiding conflict can keep things peaceful for a moment. Honest communication gives the relationship a chance to last.

When you’re sharing beats, which of these four looks do you usually go with?

If you’re not sure how to make each one, I’ll be dropping videos breaking down all four and showing some low-effort content ideas producers and beatmakers can use to post more consistently without overcomplicating the process.

We’ll start with the easy ones. Stick around after that because we’re taking it up a level. 🏁
