Words matter.
I call Scarlet, my special one.
I tell her she has special all over her (and usually spit up but that’s obvious right 🙄 for the record I don’t tell her that)

Then I ask Scarlet,
Special one, how do you know you are special?
I make my best pretend Scarlet voice and say, “Because my Daddy tells me I am”
I say, great! And how else?
Again, in my best guess Scarlet voice,
“I’m special Daddy because Mama tells me I am. (thanks Mama 🐻 for making our daughter feel so incredibly special every day 😘 )
I follow that up with… Great! And how else Scarlet?
Then I imagine her thinking about it 🤔 And she says,
“Because I know it, because I feel it, because I see it.”
This is my dream of her response and I’m going to work hard to make these words land into her heart, soul and spirit.
And I also know that there will be days that this idyllic response from her will need some encouragement.
So of course I’m trying my best to get ahead of this…..why not encourage her spirit now for later. As my last response in this imaginary conversation I tell Scarlet,

“If you can’t see it, just close your eyes, and believe it, it’s all inside.”
“It”being (special sauce)

I believe my daughter needs to hear these words now, some days I need to hear them, maybe today you need to hear them.
My fellow you’re doing better than you think you are and remember we’re better together.
Love you special one.

ps. Completely unrelated to this written post but related to this picture post with my wild big hair and originally was going in a different direction and was going to talk about my hair and being yourself etc.. was going to so I am still going to recommend ‘s TEDx Talk titled Female Lead - Must Be Willing to Shave Head

What I'm hoping for in this post is that just one person shifts their lens on flexibility and sees that flexibility isn't something to fit in... it's something to focus on.

One more time 🥁 “Flexibility isn’t something to fit in, it’s something to focus on.” ~ABC What if we start from a place of flexibility when we move our body or emotions for that matter (but that’s another post 😂 let’s focus on the physical for now 😉) rather than fitting it in or getting to it when we can.

When I reflect back on this photoshoot with , I was preparing for an race, preparing for a race the same way I start a day. I start with flexibility + mobility. It's my first step to feeling freedom and who doesn’t want to feel more freedom.

P.S. Thank you honey for asking me the question during the race "Are you listening?" because I needed to be reminded after my knee surgery that during the race I wasn't listening to my body and I needed to slow down. Maybe you need to slow down today. ⁠

Remember, slow and steady wins the race. ⁠🐢⁠

Thanks BCooke for supporting my handstand goal and thanks for your friendship in bringing me bottled water and bananas during my ACL recovery & healing. 🙏🏽

Over the last few years I’ve gotten much better at asking for help and receiving support, still have a long way to go 😬. Makes me think how difficult it can be to even simply set a goal, never mind achieving it. What I know for certain is that a major part of accomplishing our goals is being resourceful and knowing who we need to ask for support.

⁠What is one of your current goals right now? ⁠

This is my power move. When I'm feeling stuck or feeling doubt, I'll count 1, 2, 3, then shoot my arms out like I'm flying and exhale. It helps me release any stress that is building up in my body.

Wherever, whenever... you might be changing a newborn, watching tv, or waiting in line for a latte. Flexibility can be built in moments and in minutes throughout the day. Feeling open and free in your body doesn't have to wait until the workout.

As you know, when we make the most of these moments, they create more minutes, which create that extra day. Hello, 8 days a week!!⁠
