Pfc. Asia M. Graham was found unresponsive in her barracks room at Fort Bliss, Texas. Army investigators later determined her death was caused by an accidental toxicity involving controlled substances. Foul play was ruled out.
Her death drew national attention because the soldier accused of harming her, Christian Alvarado, was later convicted and sentenced to more than 18 years in prison.
Asia's family argued that the Army failed to adequately protect and support her after she reported the assault.
Asia Graham enlisted in the Army in 2019, hoping to build a better future for her family and follow in her father's military footsteps. After arriving at Fort Bliss, her family said she struggled emotionally following a reported sexual assault by a fellow soldier.
Asia Graham's story remains a painful reminder of the challenges many service members face and the importance of accountability, support, and justice within the military.
