Here is some new music, "165 ROBOTS" S**t out of left field. This was a pathetic attempt at madness on my part (I promise to do better next time!) 🤪 🤡 Unfinished but not abandoned...

I've been feeling a little frustrated with the current scheme (scam?) of writing song, recording song, mastering song, paying aggregator to get song on Spotify, Apple Music etc. Paying to promote song, paying to perform song in club... So I've been thinking more about producing more of these kinds of vids that are free - yet have some entertainment/educational value.
I'm feelin' that YouTube can be so much more than it is. With the tools we currently have that are affordable (for the most part), why the hell are we not making cooler, weirder, more off-the-cuff types of videos that hit differently?

I can only guess that it is because many content creators feel the need to post every single day to keep their algorithm working in their favor. I'm sorry, but I feel you can't create quality material with that kind of schedule. I guess if you have 10-20 people helping, it could be done, but I'm a one-man band, and it is pretty much impossible for me.

When I get into the groove of creating videos, I really enjoy it, but my first love is music - I spend a great deal of time trying to improve my playing and production skills. What is the sense of posting material if we are not getting any better at it yeah?!?

Yesterday we have a NEW RELEASE: "Past the Midnight Sun" and are revealing the unlikely meaning that was subconsciously embedded in the lyric about my brother Jimmy Tavis.

I sometimes forget to say things in the video while recording - and this one was particularly difficult. I have not been able to talk about my brother's passing for years, as it still hits me pretty hard. If it's not clear in the video, I thought I was writing about one thing, while in actuality, I was writing about my decision to bring my brother Jimmy out here to be in my first rock band.

I think about this often and wonder if I made the right decision, and if his untimely death was my fault. Of course, I had no idea at the time that he was prone to substance abuse - or I would never have brought him here to California. I have a feeling that this thought may haunt me forever.

Many of my songs have the recurring theme of breaking away and moving on into a new city, beginning again with a new life. "Past The Midnight Sun" was inspired by the thoughts I had, leaving behind my old hometown & friends in search of the razzle-dazzle opulence that the big city lights insidiously promised. The violin solo towards the end was a late, yet welcome, addition. I hope that you enjoy listening as much as I did creating & recording! : )

Straight ahead, aggressive yet musical, melodic yet infused with an unrelenting double lead line that fills the sonic space with sizzling treble and thumping bass.

Designed to make bodies move from beginning to end (after that first essential break of course 😉) this 136 BPM banger hits in all the right places. No long, drawn-out, airy, two-minute breakdown in this one, just a pounding kick punching on through from top to bottom.

I really dig the little chromatic, cheesy, synth punchline that is at the end of the two small breaks in the original mix (one in the Radio edit), it reminds me of a 1940s jazz riff.

Skyko’s new release, PLASMATRON is designed to make bodies move from beginning to end (after that first essential break of course) this 136 BPM banger hits in all the right places.

**New Song = LOVE

Continually experimenting with ways to fuse acoustic instruments into the digital world, "Love" combines violin, acoustic guitar, piano, and spoken word into the digital domain drenched in reverbs, analog delays, chorus, and filters.

There is a simple arpeggio running through pretty much the entirety of the track, as well as a super warm string pad that I fell in love with.

I was astonished at how cool my acoustic guitar sounded when I applied an enhancer and ADPTR's new "Utopia" reverb plugin on it. I further processed it with a low pass filter. Sometimes it hardly sounds like an acoustic instrument at all.

The violins were all played by me here in the studio. I processed them with delay, reverb and a compressor, but I chopped them up and repeated some of the notes artificially to give it that new futuristic vibe.

NEW SONG!

"The Mirage" begins as a dark and mysterious sonic adventure into the unknown but soon becomes an uplifting Trance anthem. 120 BPM is unusual for this genre, and even though I tried faster tempos while recording, the song kept telling me to stay at 120 for some strange reason; it just felt right.

After I completed it, the tempo decision made perfect sense. What I failed to realize at first was that "The Mirage" would be an excellent set opener! If you hit people over the head with a fast tempo at the get-go, then there may be little room to evolve the pace of your set afterwards. This track was destined and designed to be built upon.

I dedicate this new, feel-good song to my 'ol friend Dale Azzard Ramnarine. We were roommates while in a show in London's West End and became lifelong friends. He passed last month and my heart is broken. 💔 RIP dear friend, keep them laughing, singing & dancing in heaven. 🙏🏼 You will forever remain in ALL of our hearts...
