If you're looking for a job right now, listen to what a recruiter is telling you. Normally recruiters tell you to follow the process or contact recruiters (usually because they've never learned other ways).

If networking is not working for you, you're doing it wrong. Ask questions about it. Read books about it. Keep mastering it. it's a skill that will help you for the rest of your life.

Job seekers: STOP letting the job market steal your power.

That’s how you give away your power.

The market.
The economy.
Layoffs.
Ghosting.
Competition.
The company’s timeline.
The final hiring decision.

Yes, the job market is hard.

But focusing too much on everything outside your control usually makes job search more depressing and frustrating.

Your real power is in your actions.

Your outreach.
Your networking.
Your relationship building.
Your follow-up.
Your communication.
Your preparation.
Your ability to improve after every interview, every silence, and every missed opportunity.

You may not control who responds.

But you control how many quality conversations you start.

You may not control who else applied.

But you control whether people understand who you are, what you do, and why you are a strong fit.

You may not control the final decision.

But you control whether you gave the right people enough reasons to remember you, trust you, and recommend you.

That is where job search momentum comes from.

Not just applying.

Not just waiting.

Not just hoping someone finally notices you.

Your results won’t change until your actions do.

What’s an action you can take to get better or improve your results that you have control over?

99.9% of job seekers fail at this.

They interview. They don’t get the job. Then they don’t keep in touch.

That is one of the biggest missed opportunities in the entire job search process.

Because not getting the job does not always mean they didn’t like you.

Sometimes you were their 1A choice.

Meaning? They would have hired you, but someone else was just a better match for that specific opening on that specific day.

If they had two openings, they might have hired you too.

The recruiter who passed on you today may know about another role tomorrow.

The hiring manager who chose someone else may still respect you, remember you, and refer you later or even next week.

The company that passed on you for this opening may be hiring again in 1 month.

But none of that matters if the relationship dies the second you get the rejection email.

And it will die if you don’t make multiple attempts to keep in touch.

Most job seekers think networking is something you do before you get the interview.

Wrong.

Some of your best networking happens after the interview, especially when you handle the rejection with professionalism, confidence, and long-term thinking.

A strong response sounds like this:

“I appreciate the opportunity to interview. I’d love to keep in touch for the future and get your advice on how I can keep getting better.”

That sentence makes it clear you are not just chasing this one job opening.

You are building a professional relationship beyond this specific role, this specific hiring process, and this specific company.

Hiring managers move companies. Recruiters hear about other openings. Teams expand. Priorities change. Budgets reopen.

And the candidate who stayed connected professionally is far more likely to be remembered than the candidate who didn’t keep in touch.

The job you didn’t get today could still lead to the referral, interview, or opportunity you get next.

Have you ever stayed in touch with a recruiter or hiring manager after not getting the job?
Why? Why not?

The Resume Mistake that quietly costs people interviews:

Their resume sounds like a list of responsibilities instead of WOW proof they can do the job.

That is why so many job seekers keep searching for resume examples, resume templates, ATS-friendly resumes, resume keywords, resume summaries, and the best resume format…

But they are often fixing the wrong problem.

The real issue is usually this:

Not enough accomplishments.
Not enough numbers.
Not enough measurable impact.

Most people write:

“Responsible for managing projects.”

That tells me what you were assigned.

This is stronger:

“Led 12 projects that saved $430K and cut delivery time by 18%.”

That tells me why an employer should care.

Before you rewrite your resume again, ask yourself:

Where did I save time?
Where did I save money?
Where did I improve a process?
Where did I increase revenue?
Where did I reduce errors?
Where did I lead, train, build, fix, grow, or improve something?

Your resume does not need prettier words.

It needs stronger WOW proof.

What is one number, result, or accomplishment you could add to your resume today?

“Just be yourself” is horrible interview advice.

Not because you should be fake.

Because interviewing is not a normal conversation.

Most people do not interview every day.

They do not naturally know how to answer behavioral questions, explain their value, tell strong career stories, or connect their experience to the specific job.

So why are we telling job seekers to wing it?

Especially when they may be competing against 5, 10, or 15 other qualified candidates who also have good experience.

Being qualified is not always enough.

You have to communicate why you are the right fit.

That takes preparation.

Think through common interview questions.

Prepare specific examples.

Practice your answers out loud.

Know your best stories before the interview starts.

The goal is not to sound scripted.

The goal is to sound clear, confident, and relevant.

Be yourself.

But be the prepared version of yourself.

What is the worst interview advice you have ever heard?

Delete resume words!

Your resume does not need more words.

It needs better words.

Every word matters.

If a word does not prove your value, clarify your impact, or make you easier to understand as a candidate…

Delete it.

Resume writing is different from regular English writing.

You do not need full sentences.
You do not need “I,” “my,” “the,” or “a” everywhere.
You do not need filler words just because they make the sentence sound more “complete.”

For example:

“I was responsible for the management of several projects.”

That sounds formal, but it is weak.

Try this instead:

“Managed 12 projects, cut delivery time 18%, and saved $430K.”

That is clearer.
That is stronger.
That shows impact.

Hiring managers skim. Recruiters scan.

Your resume has seconds to make the case.

So stop filling space.

Start making every word earn its place.

What’s one word or phrase you think people should delete from their resume?

Stop Calling Yourself a Failure!
Giving up too soon is one thing.

Realizing you no longer want it is something completely different.

There is almost always a way to improve.
A better resume.
A stronger interview answer.
A smarter networking strategy.
A more focused job search.
A better way to show your value.

Most people stop because it gets hard, slow, frustrating, or uncomfortable.

That’s not clarity.
That’s usually fatigue.

But if you have honestly looked at the goal and realized:

I don’t want this role anymore.
I don’t want this career path anymore.
I don’t want this version of success anymore.
I’m not avoiding the work — I’m choosing a better direction.

Then you haven’t failed.

You’ve grown.

Career success is not about forcing yourself to chase an old goal forever just because you once announced it, posted it, paid for it, or told people it mattered.

Your job search, career goals, and professional growth should match who you are now — not who you were when you picked the goal.

Try harder where it still matters.
Improve where improvement is needed.
Get help where strategy is missing.

But when you truly know you no longer want it?

Let it go without calling yourself a failure.

What’s a situation in your past where you thought you failed but it ended up working out to your benefit?
