Del Howison wrote his first short story in high school in 1970. It was a Horror story. Since that time it was rewritten several times and finally published in the anthology Midnight Walk (edited by Lisa Morton) in 2009. Not his first published story but certainly his most reprinted. In also set his style of dark fiction and in the years that followed he has continued to unsettle readers with his bleak outlook.

What Fresh Hell Is This? is a retrospective of many of his uncollected published short dark tales through 2023 including a couple of new horrors. Normal people dealing with abnormal situations. From the Old West to the desolate future, horror is your partner. Now you can experience the dread of a tortured mind.

The book includes an original Foreword by Horror Master Clive Barker who states, “I will gladly commend the journey to you, by all means, and celebrate the skills of your guide Mr. Howison, but thereafter you must dare to tread this terrain that has neither sign, nor history, or stains to tell who has died there.

A fresh hell, indeed.”
