CHEROKEE ALBUM OF THE WEEK - STATION TO STATION
Station to Station was Bowie’s 10th studio album and the title track is solidified as the longest studio recording of his career (over 10 minutes!) During the production of this masterpiece, Cherokee Studios was his headquarters. We recorded it around Sept/Nov 1975 and by 1976, it was a certified gold record!
Bowie has discussed being heavily addicted and influenced by co***ne during this era. Once, when asked about the recording experience, Bowie could only comment, “I know it was recorded in LA because I read it was!”
Station to Station is also significant because it introduced a new persona for Bowie: the Thin White Duke. This character was charming on the outside but soulless and malevolent deep down. He preformed as the Duke during his Isolar tour in 1976, and retired him promptly after.
