Big shoutout to KJAZZ 88.1 FM! My girl Jenny just sent me a text saying this afternoon they played the version of “I’ll Be Around” that I recorded with Pete Escovedo last year! That just made my day! (I recorded all those vocals in my bedroom btw! 😃🤪)
Join me for a trip around the world this Wednesday, March 16 at 9 p.m. PST for my monthly broadcast, "Lay It On The Line" on KJazz 88.1 FM. The theme is a Global Perspective and how international music has influenced Jazz, with a particular emphasis on how Jazz from Africa influenced the music of the African-American experience.
I pay homage to my departed friend and fellow artist, African musician Hugh Masekela, as well as Austrian Joe Zawinul, (Weather Report) whose classic "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" with Cannonball Adderley and his brother Nat, was embraced by the African-American community for its unique mix of Jazz and ethnic music. I'll be showcasing great artists from all over the globe, including Cuba, Japan, Brazil, France, Norway, England, and more, exploring how the universality of music has influenced all of us.
My newest recording, "Orchestrally Speaking," due out in April, is also an exploration of that journey, featuring some of the greatest international musicians sharing their own interpretations of music that is universal in its appeal, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, tune in Wed night at 9 p.m. PST, on KJAZZ 88.1 FM and travel the world with me on a musical journey. KJAZZ 88.1 FM
