FIFA security confiscates pre-revolutionary Iranian flags from attendees at SoFi Stadium.

FIFA imposed a ban on the Lion and Sun flag, the historic flag of Iran flown by the diaspora and by protesters inside Iran.

Iranian American organizations formally appealed the decision and pursued legal action seeking to have the ban restrained in court. Both the appeal and the legal challenge were rejected.

Iranian Americans gathered outside SoFi Stadium today to protest FIFA’s decision to align with the Islamic Republic’s preferences over the rights of Iranian Americans to express themselves on US soil, at a venue in the United States, during a tournament watched by the world.
