Letters From Over Here

Letters From Over Here Global. Righteous. Unique. Based in Los Angeles, California. It is based in Los Angeles, California, and founded by Patrick Range McDonald. All are welcome here.

Letters From Over Here is a global community on Substack, offering righteous journalism and unique ideas and writing. McDonald is a best-selling author and an award-winning journalist and activist. His work has received numerous honors, including the “Journalist of the Year” and “Best Activism Journalism” awards from the Los Angeles Press Club and the national “Public Service” award from the Assoc

iation of Alternative Newsmedia. For the “Journalist of the Year” award, judges wrote: “‘Range’ is an appropriate middle name. What incredibly detailed reporting on a variety of complicated topics. What an ability to make us feel as if we know the players. What skill in explaining messy situations. The very essence of solid journalism.”

Through his longtime work in journalism and activism, and through his extensive traveling around the world and personal experiences, McDonald holds a unique understanding of life, power, and how the world operates. It informs all his writing. (He also likes to have fun.) At Letters From Over Here, McDonald shares the things he’s learned and experienced by writing letters, articles, and essays on a wide array of subjects. Our aim is to improve the world (one way or another) and to create and grow an inclusive global community. Young, Middle-Aged, Old, Black, Brown, White, Yellow, Red, Female, Male, Non-Binary, Straight, Gay, Le***an, Bi, Trans, Working Class, Middle Class, Upper Class, Africans, Asians, Australians, Europeans, North Americans, South Americans, and Everyone Else.

Recently, Patrick Range McDonald was told not to do something because it could hurt his brand.

The thing is, he doesn't consider his life and work a brand.

So here are his thoughts on the "brand" thing, with help from Thomas Merton.

I am not a brand. That would betray, one way or another, the integrity of my life and my calling.
