“My name is Ambar Carolina Cruz Rodriguez. I am a first generation estadounidense. My mother is from Dominican Republic and my father from Mexico.

My mother and father came to the US in search of growth and a higher quality of life. Just like me now, they were young and confused trying to navigate the difficulties of this world.

There’s no pain greater than having your family separated. ESPECIALLY as a child…
I will spend the rest of my life recovering from this hole in my heart.

The current political climate is making me feel intense heartbreak. In my home country I am watching families being ripped apart and parents being taken from their children. They remind me of the family I once had.

I wrote a song inspired by how moved I am by my parents and family as I get older. Mom and dad, thank you for moving mountains for me. I’ll do the same for you.”
