What’s the strangest or funniest place your chicken has ever decided was the perfect spot to lay an egg? 😂🐔🥚

Apparently, a normal nesting box just isn’t good enough for some hens. They’ll find the most random place imaginable, settle in like it’s completely normal, and leave you wondering what goes through their little chicken brains.

Mine clearly has some very creative ideas about what counts as a comfortable nest. 😂

So now I’m curious—where is the most bizarre place you’ve ever found one of your chickens laying eggs?

My chickens are about a year old, and I couldn’t figure out why I was only getting around three eggs every other day. I searched everywhere—or at least I thought I had. 😂🐔🥚

Then I finally looked underneath the coop and discovered the absolute mother lode.

There were eggs EVERYWHERE. 🤣 I started gathering them and counted 160 eggs that I could actually reach! I still can’t believe they had been sneaking under there to lay instead of using the nesting boxes.

Needless to say, that little hiding spot has now been fixed, so they can’t keep laying under the coop anymore.

But seriously… 160 eggs!! 🤣🥚🥚🥚

I came across something really cool tonight while doing my usual egg collection and counting everyone in the flock before bed. 🐔🥚

I normally use a UV/black light when I go into the coop because it’s much dimmer than a regular flashlight and doesn’t disturb the chickens as much. Keeps everyone calm and peaceful. 😂

But tonight I noticed something I’d never really paid attention to before—the eggs glow this amazing reddish-orange color under the UV light! I honestly had no idea they would show up like this.

What surprised me even more is that it doesn’t seem to matter what color the eggs normally are—they all light up in a really similar way under the black light.

Such a simple little thing, but definitely a cool sight to stumble across during the nightly routine.

Please help me figure out what happened because I’m absolutely devastated. 💔🐔

Last night was the first time I left my fully feathered chicks outside overnight. They seemed completely fine, and this morning I moved them into the run before leaving for work. Everyone looked normal, active, and healthy when I left.

When I came home, one had already died and four more were barely hanging on. Only two were still responding, and one of those looked like it was fading fast.

It was around 80°F, and they had plenty of shade and fresh water, so I really don’t understand what went wrong. The ones that were close to dying would suddenly start flapping violently, then stop breathing.

I’m heartbroken and trying to understand what could have caused something this sudden. If anyone has experienced anything similar or has an idea what might have happened, please help.

These little troublemakers are going to learn to sleep on the roosting bars one way or another. 😂🐔

Right now they seem convinced that the nesting boxes, food containers, and basically anything except the actual roosts are perfectly acceptable sleeping spots. Then they spend the whole night making a mess everywhere, and I get to clean it all up the next morning.

The other problem is that they keep trying to cram what feels like ten half-grown chickens into one nesting box at the same time. At some point somebody is going to get squashed under that pile.

So the mission is officially on: roosting bars at bedtime. For their sanity, my sanity, and the survival of the entire flock. 😂

Well…she showed back up a mom.
So here’s my question. Do I need to go get chick feed? Or will they be fine with the layer crumble/sunflower seeds and foraging? I’ve never had this happen before.

I bought a $50 baby cam set off Amazon and it was worth every penny. No internet needed, no monthly service fees, 1000 ft range, night vision, motion controls for the camera, back and forth mics, tells me the temp. It’s perfect and pretty dang entertaining.

But Why???? There are another two laying boxes empty 🤷🏻‍♀️ all my girls line up for the one box 🫠 but today, noodles tho...

For reference, the second picture is next to my pure Ameraucana’s blue egg…
Both photos are unedited. Is anyone else getting eggs this blue?
