One of my Rhode Island Reds is bullying my other chickens. She’s running to chase them down and peck at their buttholes until they’re bleeding. They’re also pecking and pulling at their feathers really hard. I need advice on what to do. I read that Rhode Island Reds can be aggressive but she’s going to kill my other chickens if I can’t stop her.

Just wanted to show off my old dresser that I upcycled into nesting boxes. 😊 I think it turned out so cute!

There’s nothing better than finishing coop-cleaning day and having the whole shed smell fresh. I sprinkle lavender, sage, and rosemary around the nesting boxes and dust bath, and honestly, I think the girls enjoy it just as much as I do. 😊

My kids say I’m just “pre-seasoning” them. 🤦‍♀️🤣

So apparently chicken math is very, very real. 😅

When I first got this coop, I had 13 chickens and it felt like plenty of space. I had absolutely no plans to add more… but somehow I’m now at 25–30 chickens and had to install two extra roosts inside the coop.

They all seem comfortable and happy in there, but I’m wondering if it would be smarter to get a second coop, or if they’re okay as long as everyone fits without issues?

For context, they only sleep in the coop at night. During the day, they have a large covered run plus an even bigger fenced outdoor area, and they’re out of the coop as soon as the sun comes up.

I also only have 4 nesting boxes. I collect eggs twice a day and haven’t had any problems so far with crowding or eggs being laid outside the boxes. Does that sound fine, or should I add more nesting boxes too?

Okay, has anyone else ever seen a chicken try to eat a mouse? 😱

I walked in and all I could see were the legs and tail sticking out — it had almost swallowed the whole thing. I ended up taking it away, but seriously… is that normal?

I noticed a couple of cats lying in there this morning and didn’t think much of it, since the cats and chickens are always hanging out in the coop together. Then I saw one of the hens in there laying an egg. When she finally got up, I realized she wasn’t just laying — she was sitting on what she apparently thought were her babies. Lol, life is funny.

I’ve had chickens lay eggs in the cat house before, but kittens in the chicken coop? That’s a first for me.

Need advice on lice. Tonight I was cleaning up one of my ladies and found lice on her, this is my first time dealing with them. I'm confused because I treat my girls every other month with Ivermectin and I do use DE in their nesting boxes. I treated them a week and half ago and cleaned coops last night, found lice today. Should I do another treatment? My husband is getting some Elector psp. Just concerned about doing another treatment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

We weren’t able to get the coop completely finished before winter showed up, but it was finished enough that I could safely move my flock into it last night.

Edit: I realize there are still things that need to be changed, fixed, added, and probably removed. Like I said, this is definitely not a finished setup yet, so please be patient with us. It’s still a work in progress.

I do appreciate everyone pointing out concerns for my flock, and I’m taking them seriously. I just felt it was better to have them inside this space and protected from the weather than leaving them in only a covered run.

I’m not trying to come across as rude at all. I just wanted to clarify where we’re at with it.

We’ve had new neighbors for about two months, and somehow we had managed to keep the chickens completely off their radar.

Then this little troublemaker decided today was the perfect time to announce our entire backyard situation to the HOA. 😂

She hopped up there and started ba-gawking like she was trying to report herself.

Of course, the neighbor happened to be outside at that exact moment, and I hear:

**“Oh my gosh… is that a chicken?”**

Yep. Sure is.

The big dummy. 😆

Thankfully, the neighbor thought it was hilarious, so I’m not too worried about anyone calling the HOA on us. Plus, we’ve got trees blocking the backyard from the street from pretty much every angle.

She just needs to keep her fluffy little self inside our yard from now on.

Found this tiny little egg in one of our nesting boxes today, and it’s definitely a first for me.

I did a little reading, and from what I can tell, it might be a fairy egg, which sounds like it usually isn’t anything to panic about.

Still, I wanted to ask here just to be sure.

We’re still pretty new to raising chickens, so I’m trying to learn as much as I can and make sure I’m taking the best care of the girls.

Does this look like something normal, or could it be a sign that something is wrong with one of them?
