Shop local this holiday season while supporting indie stores and us! Leanna in Eagle Rock and the family-owned Garland Hotel (and manager Maddy Dion!) in North Hollywood have carried our books from the get-go -- thus helped us promote every contributor's work. We are forever grateful!

You can only find our We Heart L.A. Parks coloring book at their stores and the last copies of Dear Seller: Real Estate Love Letters from Los Angeles at the Garland!

L.A. Parks cover illustration by Jennifer Cuellar and color/cover design by Miriam Blier. Dear Seller cover photo by Alexandra Weiss.

We hope you'll check their stores out!

And you can find other guidebooks we authored for other presses as well: 52 Things to Do in Los Angeles by Teena Apeles () and Los Angeles Cocktails: Spirits in the City of Angels by Andrea Richards ().

Our love for L.A. overflows!

It's a good day to feel blue. :) Happy parade day, L.A.!

Go, . RIP Valenzuela.

Elysian Park coloring page from our We Heart L.A. Parks coloring book, available at in Eagle Rock.

By artist Sophia Allison

"I enjoy Elysian Park for its mountain views and bird watching. California Scrub Jays populate the area and are blue, gray, and white. I thought it would be appropriate to showcase them specifically in relation to the Dodgers, whose stadium is in the neighborhood."

Join Andrea Richards from creative collective Narrated Objects as she guides participants through writing and meditation exercises aimed at unlocking the storytelling potential within our cherished possessions. Participants are encouraged to bring an object of personal significance, one that holds a special attachment.

Refreshments and supplies provided.

Are you as excited as we are that L.A. will host the Summer Olympics in 2028? Do you have fond memories of the 1984 Games?

In anticipation of their return, we're sharing a downloadable coloring page from our We Heart L.A. Parks book of Palms Park by Valeran Lothaniel:
https://narratedobjects.com/weheartlaparks/PalmsPark.pdf

Located at 2950 Overland Ave, the park is also known as the Roz Wyman-Palms Park, named after the former local city councilmember whose name also graces the recreation center. It is believed to be the site of the country’s first organized BMX race on July 10, 1969, thanks to a group of local bikers and park employee and motorcycle motocross enthusiast Ronald Mackler. He continued to organize more BMX races at Palms Park through the mid-’80s. One flyer advertising a race on May 13, 1973, cosponsored by the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks, reads, “Ages 6 thru 17. Powder Puffs too! . . . Open to all. . . . You Ride At Your Own Risk!”

Stretches of the Familiar/Unfamiliar by Anne Blecksmith
Art opening
108 N Baldwin Ave, Sierra Madre, CA 91024
Friday, Sept. 8
7-9 p.m.

Next Friday, join us to celebrate the art opening of one of our founding members, Anne Blecksmith
She is having her first solo show!

From the artist:

"These small paintings, painted somewhat loose, are meant to capture those nanosecond moments while driving when you're caught in a moment of abstract thinking about where you are and the landscape."

About the show:

Stretches of the familiar/unfamiliar is artist Anne Blecksmith's first solo show featuring a series of new works completed in 2023. These mostly small-scale acrylic landscapes were photographed from her car on various freeways in Los Angeles County. Although the works are modest in size, they quietly acknowledge the outsize role driving on freeways plays in our routines and their intrusive but sculptural abstraction of the natural landscape. The works explore the architecture of overpasses, underpasses, and railings as well as light, shadow, and reflection while subtly nodding to automaticity and inattention on familiar roads. The series is also in dialog with work by artists who have inspired and influenced her practice, including California artists Wayne Thiebaud and Catherine Opie.
