Don’t use glue traps. 🙏

Our hospital admitted this Blue Jay today after it was found stuck to a glue trap.

Luckily, the jay did not sustain any severe physical injuries (we often see birds that have been stuck on glue traps coming in with fractured wings or legs after struggling to free themselves), however the feathers are very badly damaged, and the bird is extremely exhausted, weak and dehydrated. Based on the bird's critical condition and very compromised state, it is likely to have been struggling on the trap for a very long time before being found.

Glue traps are among the most inhumane methods of pest control, and these traps almost always result in unintended victims also getting stuck. As a mouse or insect gets stuck to the glue, another animal often will come along thinking they've found and easy meal and will get stuck as well. Every year, countless birds (often songbirds and smaller raptors) are brought to our hospital as a result of glue traps.
