Dear Tempts Fam,

DID YOU KNOW: Shakey Ground" was co-written by Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel, who plays lead guitar on the song? It was released 1975 as an R&B single by The Temptations. P-Funk member Ray Davis would later go on to actually join The Temptations for a short time in 1995.

Played "Sail Away', with Ron singing lead vocals early on this day--late Sunday Night/ early Monday Morn ......without even knowing it was his birthday.

HAPPY 73rd BIRTHDAY to our dear friend... Singer and songwriter Ron Tyson who is a member of the iconic vocal group, The Temptations!

Ron Tyson is the current tenor for long-lived singing group The Temptations,(1983–present). Tyson was previously with the Philadelphia groups the Ethics and Love Committee. He had been a staff songwriter at Atlantic during the Temptations' tenure at that label, and co-wrote several songs on the album Hear to Tempt You.

The lineup of Franklin, Williams, Street, Tyson, and Edwards performed on Motown 25 and released the direct to video The Temptations: Live in Concert (filmed at Harrah's Atlantic City). The album Back to Basics, released later in 1983, was the first album featuring Ron Tyson on lead. "Sail Away," produced by a returning Norman Whitfield and featuring Ron Tyson's first lead vocal, peaked at number 13 on the US R&B chart

"Today we are celebrating one of the greatest songwriters on the planet, Mr. Barrett Strong, whose birthday is today. I’ve known Barrett Strong for over 60 years. We grew up together in the north end section of Detroit, where we lived across the street from one another. He collaborated with Norman Whitfield on writing many of our award-winning, and legendary chart hits from the 60’s and 70’s, such as Grammy-winning,“Cloud Nine” and “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone.” He also penned with Norman, "I Can’t Get Next To You,” “Psychedelic Shack,” “Ball of Confusion (That’s What the World is Today),” and “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me).” He and Norman Whitfield, along with Smokey Robinson and other great songwriters, gave us incredible songs, many of which have become signature songs that are forever cemented in Temptations’ history. Barrett has left his indelible stamp not only on Motown and the Temptations, but on music history in general. His distinguished legacy of chart hits epitomizes the golden age of Motown, and beyond. Please join me in honoring and showing your love for Barrett Strong with a virtual standing ovation for all the magnificent songs he co-wrote for the Temptations, and also, please send him your warmest wishes for a healthy, happy and joyous birthday today, and many more in the years to come.” –Dr. Otis Williams P.S. The ride in to work this AM was like riding in the car when I was a kid. Great tunes!
Your playlist this morning on 90.7 FM KPFK, one day after Father's Day, was very beautiful and poetic. Enjoyed your show! 😊
This morning's radio show playlist was very pretty and fragrant with the on-coming of wildflowers and plants in the season of Spring--refreshing & reflective. Great show!
Enjoyed your show!
Wish you were on Kpfk daily. I love the mixes you play. Thanks for all your dedication
Looking forward to your next airing!
What's up Teddy (Soul Brother to the Night)!? I'm digging your podcast! I'm listening to your Christmas show(s)! I grew up in Lansing, Michigan #7 of 8 kids & I went to school in Adrian, Michigan too! I remember tying my muffler in place after class with plastic bags in 15° weather haha! Anyway just wanted to give ya a shout out!
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Teddy Angelo Robinson yesterday at the TCM Classic Film Festival. He has a unique connection with my forthcoming book Into the Dark. I wrote much of it while listening to broadcasts of his program The Stairway to Heaven on KPFK radio (both live and from archival streaming online). I also listen to his program The Soul Session every Wednesday morning while working on media outreach for our book. I first saw many of the films noir in repertory theaters in the '70s, and I'd be listening to this music while driving to screenings at the Vagabond Theatre, the Nuart Theatre, LACMA, or the Sherman Theatre. Happy memories all around.
Listening to your amazing soul session on Kpfk
It must be very illuminating to tip through the timeless music of minds gone by or still with us. I respect your love in your adventures you are a blessed beautiful black man in his own journey up the stairway to HEAVEN! I ❤️ you!💋
Merry Christmas 2015, and Happy New Year 2016, Teddy!
