I’ve been in Los Angeles for nearly 30 years, and nothing prepared me for the music scene at MJ’s Unique Social Club. I felt like I had stepped back in time.

If you want to experience one of the most authentic music scenes you’ll ever find, you have to go to MJ’s on a Sunday night.

But next Thursday, June 11, that same scene is traveling to Delicious Pizza. It’s well worth checking out. I guarantee it.
Here’s the ticket link to the show:

With my friend Chuck Block and Morgan Margolis, we produced a film about the wave of innovation happening in martial arts. One person I deeply wanted to include was Chuck Norris.

Though we were never able to get him into the film, we were fortunate to feature many of his close friends and contemporaries: Bob Wall, Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, Richard Norton, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, Howard Jackson, Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Joe Corley, Cynthia Rothrock, and others who helped define that era.

Chuck was the real deal. After mastering stand-up Tang Soo Do—an offshoot of Taekwondo,he competed in bare-knuckle, full-contact karate, just missing the emergence of modern professional kickboxing. Never one to stop learning, he later became highly accomplished in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

That spirit of exploration, of constantly evolving and pushing the boundaries of martial arts, was exactly what our film Modern Warriors was all about.

Good night, Chuck. Your films Good Guys Wear Black and The Octagon left a lasting impression on me.

I was fourteen when I first saw Tommy in a movie theater. I went with friends after school, then again that weekend with my parents. I was blown away by the sheer spectacle of it all. I was already a Who fan but that film made me a Who fanatic.

As a film fan, I couldn’t imagine something so rich with themes and insight into the human condition brought to life with such extraordinary imagination, through production design, choreography, camera movement, lighting, costuming, and performances.

I’ve caught it a few times on TV over the years, but it’s a film that demands to be experienced on the big screen.

Tonight, I saw it in IMAX, and it hit me just as powerfully as it did the first time. It’s a masterpiece.

Some will say it’s overblown, excessive, even ridiculous. But that’s exactly the point. It commits fully to its vision. Director Ken Russell was fearless making this film.

I’ve never seen anything quite like it, before or since, except, perhaps, The Wizard of Oz in terms of pure cinematic spectacle.
It may be my new favorite movie.
