🎺 It’s been almost a year since our world premiere at Tribeca film festival and in that time has been to 11 film festivals; 4 jazz festivals; 5 Universities/colleges; and 2 museums. It’s been an exhilarating ride bringing Roy’s story to audiences all around the country and the world . I am deeply moved by the response we have received , it has been a mystical and beautiful life experience. Thank you to everyone who has attended screenings, and to everyone who has supported the making of the film along the way. Every day I receive emails, DMs, texts and phone calls from people asking where they can watch the film and I am working on securing distribution to make it available to the most people possible, but it’s a process so stay tuned…

Thanks again for all of the love and support during our festival run this past year, and now it’s definitely time for this film to be available on platforms for everyone to have access to, so let’s call it in!🙏🏾

HARLEM, May 25, 2023 - HARGROVE, A Film by Eliane Henri is screening as an Official Selection of Harlem International Film Festival. 6:30PM. Maysles Documentary Center 343 Malcolm X Blvd, New York, NY 10027. 🎟️ Tickets available at Maysles Documentary Center website.

Filmed in the jazz clubs of New York, Los Angeles, Paris and across Mediterranean Europe (Vienne, Perugia, Sète, Sorrento and Marseille) on his unexpectedly final tour, HARGROVE shines a bright spotlight on the genius of Roy Hargrove and his enormous contribution to the art of jazz. Key conversations expand beyond Roy’s personal story and explore the terrain of what it means to be an artist in America. HARGROVE dives into multidimensional perspectives on Black music while offering a glimpse into the politics of power and race in the music industry. Roy’s narrative reverberates in today’s Black Lives Matter movement with issues of ethics, exploitation, and empathy called into question. Told in vérité style, Hargrove interweaves themes of friendship, art, spirituality and death with stellar live performances and intimate interviews. Music icons Erykah Badu, Herbie Hancock, Questlove, Sonny Rollins, Wynton Marsalis and yasiin bey reflect on Roy’s indelible impact, giving him his place amongst the constellations.

Director: Eliane Henri
Producer: Eliane Henri, Dana Guerin
Executive Producer: Janine Sherman Barrois, Erykah Badu, and Scott Adler.
Cinematographer: Robert Benavides
Editor: Joseph Marconi

Also featuring interviews with Antonio Hart ; Christian McBride ; Gerald Cannon ; Evan Sherman; Frank Lacy; Marc Cary; Ralph Moore; Robert Glasper; and Willie Jones iii
