Purest Form pulls visceral dance-punk music from modern-day angst and unrest. The newly formed Los Angeles trio — vocalist Story Beeson, guitarist/programmer Madi Woodward, and bassist Riley Oikawa-Dahlson — draws on their respective backgrounds in hardcore bands, and a shared love of industrial and techno, splicing the intensely heavy with the playful and sensual. RESISTANCE, their debut with Dais Records, delivers a potent, 6-track anarchist assault on the system, fueled by collective anger amidst late-stage capitalism and a year of nonstop trauma in LA, from the fires to ICE. “Resistance, less of an idea, more of an absolute action that has to be taken,” asserts Beeson.

RESISTANCE builds on their 2024 EP, is more agile and charged-up, a cataclysmic set with structural jumps and hard left turns, confronting sonic and societal constructs. Serrated riffs meet fractured breakbeats, basslines, and body-quaking feedback, with nods to death metal and acid house in equal measure, all punctuated by Beeson’s urgent, anthemic narration, often shouted to near-shreds. “It’s like a unification of all the music that we love and feel. And it makes sense to us. If it sounds good, we don’t care where it comes from” says Woodward.

Avaeken preserves site-specific work: O’Malley installed Avaeken as part of Wish You Were Here, the exhibition by renowned American artist Banks Violette, underscoring the tension between presence and absence, life and loss. O’Malley and Violette have developed a distinct language of sound, space, and sculpture over the past two decades, reverberating the walls of world-class institutions from The Guggenheim and Centre Pompidou to prominent galleries such as Maureen Paley in London, Gladstone Gallery in NYC, and Antwerp’s TICK TACK, the brutalist space where Wish You Were Here unfolded in early 2026. Emerging now as an LP, Avaeken presents power and phenomena: low-frequency vibrations, deep oscillations, and phase cancellations that translate as innately effective in any environment. Violette’s visual expression — the impossibility of locating yourself within the loss of a friend and the broader decay of culture — now fills the LP sleeve and feels inextricable from O’Malley’s sound, both still without resolution.

Ushering in a sonic new era for the California shoegaze band, Glory2 examines the frustration and deep longing stemming from distance. Musically, the EP is the band’s most realized and captivating production to date. Cold Gawd’s effervescent distortion and pummeling grooves continue to be the band’s trademark, but are newly reflected across the track list. Songs on Glory2 pull in-genre inspiration from shoegaze luminaries like Beach House and DIIV, but also branch out—infusing influences from hip-hop collective BROCKHAMPTON as well as emo rockers Tigers Jaw.

The EP’s first single “Grease” dismisses any notion that Cold Gawd have lost their edge. The song grasps at stability in the struggle to keep moving forward. Wainwright’s exhaustion is palpable: “Brief joy found in praise,” he sings, “It meant nothing.” Accolades and pats on the back don’t put gas in the tank. Grease is unyielding, propulsive in the verses, and catches air in the choruses. Wainwright delivers a familiar gauzy vocal complemented by panoramic guitars, lifted higher to his vision of completeness. Even if the needle is hovering on E, Grease proves that Cold Gawd is no less explosive.

The 6 songs on Glory2 feature contributions from members Brandon Aviles Brandon Aviles (Guitar/Production), Cameron Fonacier Cameron Fonacier (Drums), and @ Cameron “Duck” Burris (Bass/Vocals). sa. drop new track “MLN” (feat. TONY NJOKU) from the forthcoming album Quiet Storm, out September 25th. “MLN” gets to the beauty and catharsis at the core of Quiet Storm. It’s a true band effort, a collective slow march featuring British-Nigerian artist Tony Njoku, with guitar and lead bass by Gabriel Evans, London’s PIKE on drums, and Copenhagen’s GB (Gustav B) on keys and strings. “Someone come and save me from the devil / I’m left outside,” sighs Njoku in his processed falsetto as the snare drum snaps.
