A statement from our founder on directing Forgotten Outlaw!
“Forgotten Outlaw is a story that found me.
A few years ago, I discovered I was a distant relative of Bub Meeks, a man I had never heard of — and most people still haven’t. He wasn’t one of the legends. He wasn’t in the history books. But he was there. In 1887, he helped Butch Cassidy and Elzy Lay rob the Montpelier Bank. And a year later, when he was arrested for a completely different offense, Bub was put on trial for the heist. Not because he talked. Not because he ran. But because he didn’t. He kept his mouth shut. He stayed loyal. And while others became legends, Bub was left behind.
I didn’t grow up hearing this story. But once I did, it changed everything. I started with a documentary to explore the real man behind the myth — and now, I’m bringing Forgotten Outlaw to life as a cinematic narrative.
This film isn’t about revenge or redemption. It’s about ego, loyalty, and the cost of humility in a world obsessed with fame. Bub didn’t seek the spotlight — and because of that, he was forgotten. In a time where everyone is chasing credit, his story
resonates louder than ever.
As a director — and as family — I feel a deep responsibility to tell this story with respect, grit, and authenticity. Forgotten Outlaw isn’t just a Western. It’s a quiet reckoning. And it’s time Bub’s story was finally heard.”
