L.A. Tuesday 9.24 @ 2220 Arts!✨!✨ Black Editions Presents an evening of two thrilling London based artists: Experimental Drummer, Producer, Composer, Improviser VALENTINA MAGALETTI and Synth/Vocal/Guitarist and Sound Artist NORDRA. ⚡️Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/J0ad6669c30b?dice_id=J0ad6669c30b ⚡️

Valentina Magaletti is a drummer-composer and multi-instrumentalist with an inventive approach to drums and percussion. Her versatile technique, which can incorporate anything from vibes and marimba to contact microphones and found objects, results in a style that is forever evolving. Feeling just as comfortable performing behind a delicate ceramic kit as she does hammering out motorik rhythms, her creative take on percussion has resulted in a diverse discography and many interesting collaborations.

As a drummer, Magaletti moves effortlessly between the seemingly disparate worlds of alternative and mainstream music. She has played with artists such as Jandek, Pat Thomas, Deb Googe, Malcolm Mooney, Thurston Moore, Steve Beresford, Steve Shelley, Lafawndah, Mica Levi, Sampha, Nicolas Jaar to name a few. In addition to collaborating with the gamelan Ensemble Nist-Nah and drummers Malcom Catto, Julian Sartorius and Charles Hayward, she has played with stalwarts of the experimental underground scene like Gnod’s Marlene Ribeiro, Wire’s Graham Lewis, and Thighpaulsandra (Coil). In 2017, Valentina participated in The Can Project, standing in for the late Jaki Liebezeit, at London’s Barbican Centre.

Magaletti’s compositional credits are just as elaborate: with Tom Relleen, she was one half of Tomaga, the critically acclaimed electronic duo; with Al Wootton, she creates irresistible claustrophobic dub as Holy Tongue; with Pino Montecalvo, under the Avvitagalli alias, Valentina improvises intricate sonic collages; alongside percussionist João Pais Filipe, as CZN, she constructs hallucinatory rhythmic worlds, which are as fragile as they are eternal.

This Saturday, October 28th we’re pleased to present Loscil / Lawrence English and Teasips (Angela Frances Wilson) - Live at 2220 Arts + Archives, Los Angeles
✨Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/Te8de5576092

Loscil (Scott Morgan) and Lawrence English present a live AV edition of their collaborative album Colours of Air (kranky, 2023). Drawing from the rich palette of pipe organ sounds sourced for the album, the duo process, rearrange, remix and supplement with live, adaptive visuals bringing new perspectives to their recorded work.

United by a shared interest in the provocative promise of harmony and pulse, and the unyielding aspiration of brutalist architectural forms, loscil (Scott Morgan) and Lawrence English’s Colours Of Air for kranky is their first joint offering. Drawing the entirety of the album’s sound materials from a century old pipe organ, the recordings draw on a methodology that is equal parts devolution and iteration. Working to extract the full breath of the organ, and through doing so honour the intensely rich sources that the instrument produces, Morgan and English’s approaches transform the instrument’s pipes and mechanics. This reframing of the instrument reveals a refracted perspective that celebrates the dynamic and timbral capacities of the organ. The results are undulating, saturated and porous, creating a sense of the pieces open ever outward, inviting audiences to become consumed within an ever exhaling breath of sound.

LOSCIL is the electronic music project of Canadian composer and multimedia artist Scott Morgan. For over 20 years, Morgan has built a robust catalogue ofwork under the LOSCIL moniker, loosely spanning the genres of ambient, classical and electroacoustic music. Alongside numerous albums released on the esteemed American label, Kranky, Morgan has also produced special projects, remixes and collaborations with other musicians including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Murcof/Vanessa Wagner, bvdub, Sarah Neufeld, Daniel Bejar, Rachel Grimes and Lawrence English.

Lawrence English is an artist, composer and curator based in Australia. Working across an array of aesthetic investigations, English’s work explores the politics of perception and prompts questions of field, agency and memory. English utilises a variety of approaches including visceral live performance and site-specific installation to create work that invites audiences to consider their relationship to listening, place and embodiment. Over the past decade he has worked with sound as a medium for embodied experience and is determined to share his interests in the transformative and sensorial transgressive possibilities of sound. He is a Sidney Myer Creative fellow, was awarded an outstanding doctorial thesis award in conjunction with his PhD in 2017 and has been supported by the Mike Kelley Foundation for his public artwork project in Los Angeles, Seirá. In 2022, he has been appointed the Annual Honouree by the Institute Of Modern Art.

Angela Frances Wilson is an interdisciplinary artist, and composer with a practice built at the intersection of healing art, and improvisational music. Using digital and analog mediums, she investigates modes of perception, and the impact of uncertain space. Ang's lowercase sound composition/improvisation blurs the lines between noise, and free jazz. Under the moniker Teasips, she explores sonic space as an expansion of self and reality. She is currently creating work, and performing in Los Angeles & Europe
