Hello Beacon Community,

Thanks again for contributing to the success of the Community Beacon newspaper between 2013-2017. It was such a very rewarding experience to work with you and George to publish a free bilingual (sometimes trilingual) newspaper distributed in hundreds of local businesses and thousands of homes. Our goal was to provide a voice for local community members, and my unstated goal was to follow the wise saying: “Comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.” (Finley Peter Dunne)

It’s been a while and I bet you forgot I exist! It’s OK. I hope you have been well!

Since giving up the Beacon, I completed my dissertation and doctorate degree as Cal State LA, and more importantly, I have spent more quality time with my wife and daughters. Just about 7 days a week, I was coaching my daughters’ basketball teams at various recreation centers (El Sereno, Hazard, Montecito, Chevy Chase, Lake Street, Garcia, City Terrace) and weekend club tournaments and shoot outs and soccer teams (at El Sereno Recreation Center, Almansor Park). And when I was not coaching, I was an avid supporter at all their games.

I am so proud that both, Luisa (Sophomore) and Ines (Freshman) are taking all the Honors and AP classes available to them and are on the Honor Roll at Wilson High School, they were starting guards on the Varsity Basketball team, and they play for the Downtown Los Angeles Soccer Club - a brand new team this year that moved up to the Silver division already. Both had just started training and competing for the Track Team in the sprints.

Now that our daughters are older and more annoyed with my attention, I have been able to renew my real estate broker’s license and assist home buyers and sellers. Two quick plugs for my business:
1)Working as an independent broker, I can do things in terms of commission reductions for sellers and commission rebates for buyers, as I no longer pay the extra fees that I used to pay at Century 21: supervising broker, 2 company owners, office manager, transaction coordinator, administration fee, pre-paid legal, and C21 franchise fee. I am able to pass along those savings to my clients, so buyers SAVE and sellers NET more money.
2) In addition, I am able to share with prospective buyers, off-market properties in their desired area. When a qualified buyer tells me where they want to buy, I invest $2,000 of my own money to find home sellers in their desired area to facilitate a private sale.

With your permission, I will email you a quick email update, once a month, to remind you that I am in real estate and am available to serve you and anyone you want to refer. I promise I will not spam you! Feel free to text or call me anytime.

If you would prefer that I use a different email for you, or if you want to unsubscribe, please let me know. Thank you for reading this entire email.

Preserve El Sereno -

Regarding the proposed development of 43 homes at Eastern/Lombardy in El Sereno, neighbor Melissa Kellogg shared this letter with a google group of local neighbors (more info and documents on the project can be found at 90032.org)

The deadline to comment on the MND has been extended to July 1.

To: "[email protected]om"

Subject: Eastern Lombardy MND - 30 Day Comment Period

Dear Neighbors,

The Los Angeles Planning Department is now receiving comments on the proposed Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) for the 42-lot Small Lot Subdivision proposed for the parcels at the corner of Eastern and Lombardy in EL Sereno .

This comment period began May 13 and will end June 13. Whether or not you were notified by the City, please plan to submit comments. (and I'd like to hear from you about whether you were notified and, if so, how?.)

Your comments about this document are important and influential. If you want them on record, you must submit them to the City Planning office by June 13. (NOW it is JULY 1)

The proposed MND document and appendices can be found here: ENV-2015-1918. ENV-2015-1918-APP. ENV-2015-1918-APP2. ENV-2015-1918-APP3.

The project description includes a zone change, a variance for an excess of retaining walls, and the removal of 28,500 cubic yards of soil from the site. The description also mentions that the site is currently home to 102 mature protected native trees -- 68 of which would be removed to accommodate this project, along with an additional 64 non-protected trees on the site.

You will see in Aesthetics section 1-3 that a mitigation is outlined for 'previously removed protected trees.' I believe this refers to several native walnut trees which the City has now confirmed have already been removed from the site without a permit.

Your comments to the record regarding the impacts of this development on our community are very valuable. Comments should address short and long term environmental impacts of the proposed project, whether you feel all possible impacts are addressed in these documents and whether the mitigations outlined are sufficient to lessen the impacts in some way.

If you feel this MND as written does not adequately acknowledge the significant negative impacts of this project, your comments to the record should include a request for a Full Environmental Impact Report (EIR) (this requires the developer to prepare and submit more extensive documentation) and the reasons you think this is necessary.

As you prepare your comments to the record on this project, you may want to consider the impacts on our community in terms of:
Aesthetics (visual appearance, is it compatible with the size and character of the existing community or the desired future growth of the community)
Land use and planning (the suitability of this exact development on this exact site, how it influences the direction of growth in the community, is it in keeping with the general plan for our area)
Pollution levels, noise levels, traffic, impacts on water and sewer and street infrastructure, general heath and welfare short and long-term
Known geology of the area, potential hazards to homes directly adjacent to the site.
Economic impacts, impact on population and housing for the area
Impacts on wildlife, habitat, accessibility,
Short and long-term impacts of the grading and construction process, and the long term impacts of this 'community within a community.'
While the documents are rather long, it is really worthwhile to review them closely and to thoughtfully respond to each area of impact you find important with specific reasons why you think the impacts are more significant that the document states, or why the mitigations proposed are not sufficient.

Finally, if you did not receive notice of this review period from the City of Los Angeles, please include that fact in your comment to the record.

Comments on these documents and any other element of the project you wish to address must be submitted before June 13, 2016. They should be sent to the Los Angeles City Planning Department and must include the following case numbers: ENV-2015-1918-MND, VTT-73531, APCE-2015-2048-ZC-ZAD

Without further delays, its time to introduce/kickoff the Mayor Sam Sister City News Group's 2020 CD-14 City Council Campaign Coverage as the Ruling Political Establishment seeks to install former California State Senate President Kevin Alexander (of or de) Leon, as the "Temporary Jose Huizar Incarnation 2.0" ......., before the San Diego Native's desired 2022 LA Mayoral Campaign.

Has a now, Ex CD-1 City Councilman Gil Cedillo Staffer, join ranks with the notorious former Bell Gardens City Councilman (now Political Consultant) Mario Beltran, to blunt the Mayoral Aspirations of the Special Interests-owned, Career Politico, after his former Boss refused to bail him out (literally), for alleged, work-related misconduct?
The government has been using the police as their racist arm of force. Thus, sending millions of minorities to jails so they do not vote. And the schools are the arm of weak education. Sure, they teach some reading, little writing but they teach nothing about kindness or how to be intelligent. So we end up with 20% of our population who have been programmed to act like fools. Then the police spend half of our local tax base (billions) chasing fools. And the military spends more than half our our national tax base (200 Billion per year) chasing fools around the world. Consequently, mis-guided schools, jails, the military, and police have become an industry for profit. Henceforth, the over all government and the ghost politicians need to be voted out for racketeering and conspiracy against Chicanos, La Raza, Blacks, and people of color.

Question. I went to Greater Cypress Park NC meeting tonight. When items are on the agenda I am told stakeholders are now allowed to ask boardmembers questions. That is in violation of the Brown act.
