I’ve been part of Step Up since 2012, first as a member and mentor, and now as a member of the Advisory Council. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to see what mentorship can look like at many different stages of a young woman’s life.
I’ve visited high schools and led after-school mentoring sessions. I’ve spent weekends with girls in programs designed to broaden their sense of what is possible. I’ve mentored young women virtually as they moved through college and into their first jobs. And I’ve helped lead workshops for women in their 20s as they begin defining success for themselves and figuring out how to build the careers and lives they want. Plus, I’ve met plenty of cool women who are nailing it in their careers.
I talk about Step Up often because the need has not gone away.
Girls and young women still need access. They need information. They need people willing to share what they know, open doors, answer questions, encourage them to speak up and help them see opportunities they may not yet see for themselves.
That has become an important part of my own mission: helping others thrive.
On Friday, September 25, I’ll be attending Step Up’s Inspiration Awards in Los Angeles, a celebration of mentorship, community and possibility. This year’s honorees include Ali Larter, and the event will bring together women and girls who are defining success on their own terms and helping others do the same.
When you purchase a ticket, you’re doing more than attending an event. You’re helping Step Up provide mentorship and confidence-building programs for girls and young women as they take their next steps in school, work and life.
If you’re in Los Angeles, I’d love to see you there.
And if you can’t attend, you can still support the work by donating a ticket for a Step Up community member or making a contribution to Step Up’s mentorship programs.
AND, while I want you to join us or donate, we’d also love for you to become a mentor. We’re national, so you can mentor from just anywhere. www.suwn.com/inspiration-awards/
