Larry Linville — a former **aeronautical engineering student** — played Major Frank Burns for **5 seasons**, then walked away on purpose! ✨ He turned down a renewal because he felt Frank had nowhere left to grow. Off-screen, he was nothing like his pious, bumbling character — warm, educated, and widely loved by the cast. Alan Alda gave his eulogy when he passed in 2000. 🕊️

Who still cringes at Frank's "it's a war, not a hospital!" speeches?

Harry Morgan first appeared on M*A*S*H as a **different character** — a gruff visiting general — before returning as beloved **Colonel Potter** for 8 seasons! ✨ His own quarter horse played Sophie in the finale, and he took her home afterward. He won the **1980 Emmy** and appeared in **171 episodes** — more than anyone else! 🌟

Who still loves Potter's steady, fatherly wisdom?

McLean Stevenson **auditioned for Hawkeye** but became beloved **Lt. Col. Henry Blake** instead! ✨ He won a **Golden Globe** and earned **4 Emmy nominations** — one even for writing! He left after Season 3 seeking top billing, and his exit episode *"Abyssinia, Henry"* — where Henry's plane is lost — remains **TV's most heartbreaking moment** ever. 💔

Who still cries when Radar delivers that terrible news?

Allan Arbus was **never a real doctor** — but he played one so convincingly that Alan Alda found himself seeking his advice off-camera! He appeared in **12 episodes** as Major Sidney Freedman, the compassionate psychiatrist who helped the 4077th keep their sanity. 🧠✨

Who else felt calmer just seeing Sidney walk into camp?

Alan Alda **contracted polio at age 7** — and survived! He endured months of painful heat-pack treatment at home, with no permanent paralysis. He later said that early struggle taught him resilience and deep empathy for others. 💪✨

Loretta Swit was **the ONLY actress to appear in ALL 256 episodes** of M*A*S*H across the full 11 seasons! She won **2 Emmys** for playing Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan — and fought to evolve her from a nickname into a strong, fully realized woman. 💫

McLean Stevenson originally **auditioned for Hawkeye Pierce** before producers cast him as the gentle, bumbling Colonel Henry Blake! He also **wrote 2 episodes** of the show and won a Golden Globe for the role. His final episode "Abyssinia, Henry" remains one of the most shocking and talked-about moments in TV history — viewers had no idea his character wouldn't make it home. 💔

From nearly playing Hawkeye to leaving us forever changed — beloved Henry Blake! ✨

Harry Morgan first appeared on *M*A*S*H* as a **different character entirely** — a stern, unhinged general in Season 3 — before producers knew they'd found their perfect Colonel Potter! The photo on Potter's desk wasn't a prop either — it was a picture of Harry's real wife, Eileen, placed there with his blessing. And in the finale, the horse he bids farewell to? **His own quarter horse**, brought in specially for that scene. 🐴

From guest general to beloved commander — forever Colonel Potter! ✨
