North Carolina, 1939...Tobacco Bag Stringing:BROWN, MISS MAY; aged 30; single; lives with mother and father; father aged 60; resides in Wilkes Co., N.C. INCOME: Father receives $7.00 per month on his old-age pension. HOME CONDITIONS: Her mother is in very poor health and has been sick in bed for five months. Doctor's care and medicine is needed but it is impossible for her to receive this attention since the bags have been discontinued. Income from these bags amounted to about $2.00 a month. The house and land they occupy is "rented" from its owner. No money is paid in rent, but the one acre of land yields some corn and potatoes and other crops which is grown and taken care of by Miss Brown. About one-third of this crop goes to the owner of the land. This constitutes the rent. The balance of the crops are used by the family for food. However, over one-half of the food has to be bought. She states that all of pension money is spent on food and she still thinks it insufficient for their needs. The house consists of only one room, very crowded and untidy. Mother and father are both confined to this room and are neither able to do any work. No inside toilet facilities, no running water, no electricity. All clothes are made at home. Since bags have been stopped, they hardly exist. The storekeeper had to give them flour and other necessities in order that they might have food. It will be impossible for this family to exist if the bags are taken away, because Miss Brown cannot leave her mother and father for work on the outside. Has been stringing bags for about fifteen years and really enjoys doing them...

This is Keanu Reeves. He was abandoned by his father at 3 years old and grew up with 3 different stepfathers. He is dyslexic. His dream of becoming a hockey player was shattered by a serious accident. His daughter died at birth. His wife died in a car accident. His best friend, River Phoenix, died of an overdose. His sister battled leukemia. No bodyguards, no luxury houses. Keanu lives in an ordinary apartment and likes wandering around town and often seen riding a subway in NYC.
When he was filming the movie "The Lake House," he overheard the conversation of two costume assistants, one crying as he would lose his house if he did not pay $20,000 - On the same day, Keanu deposited the necessary amount in his bank account. In his career, he has donated large sums to hospitals including $75 million of his earnings from
"The Matrix" to charities.
In 2010, on his birthday, Keanu walked into a bakery & bought a brioche with a single candle, ate it in front of the bakery, and offered coffee to people who stopped to talk to him.
In 1997 some paparazzi found him walking one morning in the company of a homeless man in Los Angeles, listening to him and sharing his life for a few hours.
In life, sometimes the ones most broken from inside are the ones most willing to help others. This man could buy everything, and instead every day he gets up and chooses one thing that cannot be bought: to be real.

So… I went on vacation for a week and a squirrel decided to find out how many black walnuts they could fit in my engine compartment.
The answer is 558 walnuts. 558 black walnuts fit in my engine. 😂
(The squirrel was gently shooed out of the car and got to keep most of their walnuts! I still felt terrible for undoing all their hard work.)

"I’d like to send a huge shout out to Valerie, a manager at Home Depot.

I came in tonight to pick up a refrigerator box that she was holding for me. We’re using the box to make my son’s wheelchair into a police car for Halloween. I first knew Valerie was awesome when she got down on the floor to cut the box down for me. She had beautiful nails and I told her that they weren’t meant for a box cutter and she said that her vest meant that she was made for whatever I needed!

After getting the box loaded, Valerie helped us brainstorm and find the other items we would need. We trekked all over that store with our creative genius. Then she took us to the check out and PAID FOR EVERYTHING HERSELF. I tried to refuse but she just said that it would bless her greatly.

My son may not have understood anything other than she was kind and patient with him, but this special needs mama really, really appreciated this huge act of kindness. The biggest blessing for me was the way she treated my son and the way he responded to her. Thank you, Valerie, so much!!"

Brian, an old man who has retired and lives on meager pension, still does something extra special every night – he cooks curry for the homeless. And this is done before making 50 tubs of it, in flat minutes.
Brian says: “It really makes me warm with happiness that one can provide hot food to the hungry and the homeless.”
But you have to know that it is people like Brian who make this big old world better and better."

“'Because he probably doesn’t get very many, Mom.'

She composed the whole thing herself. I wish I could see his face when he opens it!"

Despite being a seasoned runner, Myles noticed the boy struggling and chose to stay by his side, offering encouragement and support until they crossed the finish line together. Though it meant finishing last, Myles demonstrated the true spirit of compassion and selflessness, showing that some races are not about winning but about being there for others when they need it most.
