🔎 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝟱:
At 15 years old, on Halloween night, I embarked on an adventure with friends, donning devil costumes and daring to explore a supposedly haunted lake near the forest. Despite warnings from locals about the spirit of a woman haunting the lake, I rowed out alone, driven by curiosity. In the thick fog, I felt a chilling presence pulling me underwater until I was rescued by my parents, who had been frantically searching for me. Despite surviving, the experience left an indelible mark, making me realize the truth behind the lake's legend and haunting me every Halloween with memories of the cold hand that nearly claimed me.

The narrator gives his wife a doll for her birthday, which she initially loves. However, she becomes increasingly distant and upset, finally admitting that the doll scares her because it feels like it's watching her and sometimes seems to move on its own. When the narrator investigates, he discovers maggots inside the doll's eye. Despite this, he plans to replace the doll, remembering his wife's admiration for a neighbor's daughter with blue eyes.

Despite efforts to manage symptoms, many patients succumbed to the then-incurable disease, with deaths estimated at around 8,000, though not the rumored 60,000. From the 1960s to 1980s, it served as an elderly care facility where stories of mistreatment and harsh treatments like electroshock therapy began circulating. Since its closure, Waverly Hills has attracted ghost hunters reporting eerie phenomena like footsteps, screams, and shadows in its corridors and rooms, particularly the notorious room 502, said to be haunted by two nurses who died by su***de there.
