Last week I was in Nigeria celebrating the grand opening of a charity hospital in one of the most underserved areas.
About a decade ago, my Uncle Ona thwarted an attempted kidnapping of him and his wife while near this very area. In the process, he was shot, and we had to bring him abroad with effort to receive medical care. Thank God he recovered, but unfortunately we lost him during the pandemic.
He was a patriarch in our family.
Seeing the gap and the need… My Uncle Godfrey, Ona’s baby brother, built a charity hospital in the area. That way, people who are unable to do what we did will still be able to get their family members life-saving care for free.
The hospital is huge. Complete with a women’s care ward, a men’s care ward, antenatal/postnatal, trauma units, pediatrics, radiology, a surgical theatre and more. It will ultimately save a lot of lives.
Most people do not do this type of thing until they have already passed, but I am beyond inspired by my uncle, who chose to do this while he is still here to see the lives it will change.
