Y'all ever seen better welds?
/s btw I know they are horrible

Just finished setting up a big 24v(25.6v nominal) 320ah(300a max out) battery, mainly to power another project, but I thought I'd try stick welding with it since I currently only have a propane/oxy brazing setup.

Holy F**k this is hard. I thought stick welding would be easy.

Few questions...

1: if I'm melting chunks of my work piece away that means my rod is to large right?(what you see was done with 5/32 6011, tried 1/8 7018 to start but it just melted the work piece away)

2: alot of the times I try to start it sparks and then nothing, just my rod stuck. Or I try and despite touching nothing happens. I'm assuming when it sparks and stops it's trying to dump more than 300a in and my bms is kicking off? And when it does nothing it's because the rod isn't touching just flux?(Shaving away some flux helps with that).
