how much i spend in a day as a marketing manager, business trip edition! 🤍

i’ve been traveling for work an insane amount. i just got home after sf -> chicago -> monterey -> sf -> la. yes it’s a lot, yes it’s overwhelming, yes it’s tiring, but i remind myself i’m lucky to experience life this way. i know what i show here can look glittery and lavish, but behind the scenes i’m crashing out, stressed, overwhelmed. i’m not filming myself in those moments. reminder: what you see on social is never the full story.

i am insanely busy. i don’t even like saying that because i know how stuck up it sounds, but it’s my reality. the only people i really make time for are my family, my boyfriend, and my coworkers. friends get texts and we plan hangs a month in advance or it won’t happen. i hate that, but my priorities are clear right now and this is the schedule that works for me.

navigating the corporate/startup world is hard. maybe i should say the professional world. anyone with a 9 to 5 and a boss gets it. every job has its own version of hard. what helped me move up the ladder faster (other than getting a new job every 2ish years): communicate well and play the game, correctly. be easy to work with. be a pleasure to work with. be resourceful. even if you get tough feedback, take it on the chin and fix it. when someone asks why you made a mistake, say thank you for surfacing it, i’m fixing it now. that doesn’t mean let people walk all over you. it means knowing when to stand your ground and when to keep it moving. likeability + competence goes a long way. an extremely long way if you will.

currently, my hard is having too much to do with not enough help. i’m often my own bottleneck. i’m learning to ask for help and to give myself grace. being raised by first-gen immigrant parents, i default to doing it all myself—but i’m working on unlearning that. as a perfectionist i’m also finding it hard to just get things done. i hyperfixate on the small details, but 9 times out of 10 that detail is so incremental it doesn’t move the needle. learning to move fast and make quick decisions is a muscle everyone should build, imo.

i was really iffy about posting this vlog because i kept asking if this video is even aesthetic enough for my standards, but i’m pushing myself to just publish it. every decision has a lesson. the only thing stopping me from learning is me, and i need that reminder on loop.

anyways, idk what the tldr of this caption is. it’s the most brain-dumpy thing i’ve written here, but if you made it this far, thank you. i use this platform to document my days, and you make it feel like more than just a video. I'm afraid that the tone of this caption feels a little intense and stern but that is simply the vibe I'm feeling from today so here it is, hopefully I'm a bit warmer and graceful in the next haha.

Thank you for being here!
Work vlog coming very soon.
