We first shared Jamilla Smith’s story in 2023.
Now, with her killer finally sentenced, the full truth of what she endured has come to light — and it is devastating.

Jamilla Shanae’ Smith was only 30 years old. On December 2, 2023, she did exactly what society tells women to do: she asked for help.

She called 911 to report that her ex-boyfriend, 36-year-old Daniel Harmon, had assaulted her. Later that same evening, around 8:30 p.m., she called again — terrified — because he had broken into her home and attacked her once more.

Then came the final call.

As Jamilla ran for her life, she dialed 911 again. Dispatchers could hear a car chasing her through the streets. They heard her fear. They heard her scream. They heard Daniel Harmon in the background — and then the line went dead.

Jamilla was never seen alive again.

When her family couldn’t reach her, they reported her missing. Police eventually located Daniel Harmon and discovered a vehicle containing blood evidence. Investigators determined Jamilla had been struck by the car. He was arrested — but he refused to tell anyone where she was.

For five long months, her family lived in agony, not knowing where Jamilla was or what had happened to her.

Five months later, her remains were found in a wooded area.

The autopsy revealed the unimaginable: Jamilla had been killed by multiple gunshot wounds to the head.

On December 19, 2025, Daniel Harmon pleaded guilty to murder and kidnapping. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison for murder and 30 years for kidnapping.

Justice came — but far too late.

Jamilla leaves behind two babies who will grow up without their mother. A family forever changed. A life stolen despite repeated cries for help.

Her story is a painful reminder that domestic violence is not just “private.” It is deadly. And every call for help must be taken seriously — because sometimes, there is no second chance.
