On June 20, 2025 just after 5 a.m., police say officers were called to the parking lot of Motel 6 in the 12700 block of LBJ Freeway in Garland, Texas for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died the next day.
The victim was identified as 48-year-old Santiago Lopez Morales.
The investigation revealed two of the suspects were involved in a robbery around 2 a.m. at another motel in the 3600 block of Leon Road.
Allegedly, there were four witnesses who were questioned by police at the scene. All four arrived at the motel with the victim, in the same vehicle.
One of those witnesses allegedly had been robbed at another hotel. Investigators said the woman told Morales about the incident and Morales started messaging with the suspects and posing as a pr******te. A meeting was set up at Motel 6.
Detectives then reviewed surveillance video. There were several video clips that showed the events surrounding the shooting.
At 4:21 a.m., the pickup enters the motel parking lot and eventually backs into a parking spot on the south side of the complex, where it stayed throughout the entirety of the incident.
At 4:47 a.m., a Toyota sedan enters the motel parking lot and parks on the east side of the complex.
At 4:54 a.m., a gray Acura backed into a parking spot in the nearby Denny's parking lot.
At 5:03 a.m., the Toyota moves from one parking spot to another, but stays on the east side of the complex.
At 5:07 a.m., a Hispanic male (Suspect 1) gets out of the Toyota and walks to the south side of the complex.
At 5:09 a.m., Suspect 1 is seen walking in the middle of the complex and has his phone up to his ear.
At 5:09 a.m., Suspect 1 arrives in front of room 137 and knocks on the door. He continues to knock and is seen using his phone as he stands in front of the door for several minutes.
At 5:13 a.m., a man dressed in security guard attire, who is now identified as Morales, gets out of the pickup from the front passenger side door with a gun in his right hand and approaches Suspect 1, while pointing a gun at him. As Morales gets close to the other male, he grabs Suspect 1, and they begin wrestling in front of room 139.
Two other males get out of the pickup and approach the men wrestling. They noticed a man getting out of the passenger side of the Acura (Suspect 2) and began throwing rocks at Suspect 2.
Suspect 2 pointed a gun at the two men who were throwing rocks at him, then ran up to Morales and Suspect 1, who were still wrestling, and pointed the gun at Morales.
A muzzle flash is allegedly seen in the video, then Morales falls to the ground.
As this was happening, the driver of the Acura, Suspect 3, pulled out of the parking spot and up to the area of the shooting.
Suspect 1 and Suspect 2 then jumped into the Acura to leave. Then the Toyota backs out of its parking spot and follows the Acura out of the complex.
As the vehicles are leaving the parking lot, Morales "lies motionless on the ground and is seen bleeding profusely."
The two men who were throwing rocks ran out of the camera's view and then returned to the pickup later.
The officer reports he then saw two females get out of the pickup and one approached Morales' body.
The officers say the witnesses were all seen wandering around and one of the females is seen talking on the phone, presumably calling 911.
The first officer arrives on the scene at 5:19 a.m. and begins administering first aid to the victim.
As detectives interviewed the witnesses at the scene they connected the shooting with an earlier aggravated robbery in Garland.
Ties to Deluxe Inn Aggravated Robbery
Detectives reviewed surveillance of an aggravated robbery at the Deluxe Inn at 3635 Leon Rd. in Garland from about three hours before the shooting at Motel 6.
Detectives report the same Acura and Toyota from the Motel 6 shooting were at the Deluxe Inn around 2 a.m.
The Deluxe Inn victim reported two Hispanic males banging on the door. When she opened the door, they forced their way inside, displaying a handgun, pointed it at her head and ordered her to sit down.
She told police the men then forced her into the bathroom, made her undress, assaulted her, took her earrings, cash, a gold medallion and the victim's ID card. They ordered her to stay in the bathroom and they left. She told police she waited 30 minutes before calling the police. She confirmed the men who robbed her were the same men seen in the surveillance from the Motel 6 shooting.
On July 31, Garland detectives arrested 20-year-old Yosguar Aponte Jimenez, 23-year-old Jesus De Nazareth Bellorin-Guzman, and 25-year-old Jose Luis Trivino-Cruz.
The men admitted to investigators that they would arrange meetings with pr******tes in order to rob them of their money and valuables. Jimenez told police that the trio has performed more than 25 robberies. Jimenez told police the group targeted pr******tes because they were less likely to report them to the police.
Trivino-Cruz told police the trio had robbed two other people before the shooting.
Jimenez has been charged with capital murder and his bond has been set at $1,500,000.
Bellorin-Guzman has been charged with capital murder and aggravated robbery. His combined bond is set at $2,250,000.
Trivino-Cruz has been charged with capital murder, aggravated robbery and indecent assault. His combined bond is set at $3,255,000.
All three suspects are being held in the Dallas County Jail and each is being held on an immigration hold.
