From The Beatles EIGHT DAYS A WEEK to the archives of Revolutionaries, we are about THE SHOCK OF THE OLD: filmmakers who dig deep into audio visual archives in search of imagery and sounds that will challenge our assumptions about the human story. Sutton Hoo Studios was founded in 2013 by Grammy-award winning archivist/filmmaker Matthew White and battle-tested telecommunications entrepreneur Christopher John Vizas. Conceived as an "Center of Excellence" to tell and to help others to tell complex, rights-burdened archive-rich stories, our company draws on the decades of experience of its founders and their wide associations with archives, restoration and preservation experts, historians, intellectual property specialists, archival researchers, digital repositories, government officials, creative teams, funders, distributors, and educators. Matthew White, our Managing Partner, is credited on the film as the originator of the film's idea and also as the Co-Producer and Research Director. In that role, he managed a team of 30 people scattered throughout the world investigating the archival relics of The Beatles on Tour. Filmmaker Catherine Murphy joined Sutton Hoo as an equity partner in 2017 and has been active in developing a slate of documentary programs built on Revolutionary images and sounds, much of it hidden from view for fifty years. Matt and Catherine are active as Visiting Scholars at the Library of Congress's Kluge Center. Sutton Hoo's projects are represented in part by Los Angeles-based Storied Media Group and by Matt, Chris, and Catherine at film festivals and international markets such as Sunnyside of the Doc in La Rochelle. Sutton Hoo Studios was invited to provide the opening plenary panel for 2017's International Federation of Television Archives (FIAT/IFTA) in Mexico City. The organization is based in the arts district of Mount Rainier, Maryland, where it plays an active role in the local creative communities.
