Our last, but certainly not least mentee/mentor pairing of our first class! You may recognize Lana Cho from her long list of writing and producing credits including Greek (ABC Family), The Pl***oy Club (NBC), and Arrow (The CW). She is currently developing the Korean drama series ‘American Seoul’ for Hulu and adapting Maurene Goo’s YA novel ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ for Netflix.

Lana is mentoring Lisa Sanaye Dring, a writer who is already earning numerous accolades for her work. We look forward to seeing what these two accomplish together!

Diane Paragas is an award-winning writer/director. Her debut narrative feature, “Yellow Rose”, made history as the first film to be theatrically distributed by a major Hollywood studio. The film won over a dozen Grand Jury and Audience Awards, and is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

We are excited to have her as a mentor to Julie Lew, a recent graduate of the USC Peter Stark Program.

April Shih has caught the attention of FX Networks for her contributions to a varied list of critically acclaimed shows like “You’re the Worst,” “Mrs. America,” ''Undone,” and “Dave.” This year she’s secured a worthy development deal with FX Productions to develop original content under her production banner Diversity Hire Ltd!✊

“April has FX’s full support in developing her own shows and is excited about her company’s efforts to champion other original voices to help us at FX create the next generation of programming,” said Gina Balian, president of original programming at FX to Variety.

Shih has been paired with Mentee Ivan Tsang, writer for Jubilee Media and Dexter Studios.

Ryan Kim is a Creative Writing MFA graduate from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He was a 2019 Nickelodeon Writing Program Semi-Finalist. He’s had short fiction published in Lunch Ticket, Ariel Chart, Hidden Chapter, and The 22 Magazine, and non-fiction published in Reclaim, Popula, RipRap, and Ricepaper.

Congratulations to Lana Cho on her new deal with for her titled ✨

Cho's win comes a month after securing a deal with for her Korean rom-com film adaptation of Maureen Goo's novel "Somewhere Only We Know."

Her writing and credits also include Greek (ABC Family), The Pl***oy Club (NBC), Arrow (The CW), The Get Down (Netflix), The Long Road Home (NatGeo), Minority Report (Fox), Timeless (NBC), Falling Water (USA), Four Weddings and a Funeral (Hulu), and I Know What You Did Last Summer (Amazon). She has previously sold pilots to 20th Century Fox, Showtime, and FX Network. Currently, Lana has a pilot set up at Hulu and a feature at Netflix based on Maurene Goo’s YA novel Somewhere Only We Know.
