Joey Alkes is a versatile songwriter and artist, best known for his work with the alternative hip-hop group DJ Monkey, Alkes co-founded DJ Monkey with Mick McMains, blending spoken word, rap, and eclectic musical styles to create a unique sound. The group is acclaimed for their thought-provoking lyrics and innovative compositions, with notable albums like "Another Evolution" and "3rd World War" Before DJ Monkey, Alkes was part of the prolific 80s songwriting duo Alkes/Fradkin, co-writing hits like "A Million Miles Away, “heard in movies like Valley Girl, Valley Girl 2020 and Speed, with Peter Case for The Plimsouls, Paul Collins’ “All Over The World,” Phil Seymour’s “Talk To Me” and legendary Alexis Korner’s “The Sphinx.”.

LorDemetrious is an African American composer, songwriter and record producer based out of Hollywood, CA. An award-winning viola player LorDemetrious honed his ear at the AME Zion Church which led him to come to Los Angeles to study at the Los Angeles Recording School, which in turn led him to the production-songwriting team The Kore. The Kore would go on writing songs for the Chip-Monk 3 movie, Ian Thomas, Quincy Brown and many others. His works have been used in many reality tv shows such as love and hip hop, animal planet, Amanda to the Rescue, 2021 movie Warning and much more.

The Pasadena Weekly piece honoring 21 year former managing editor, Kevin Uhrich, is out. Dying to see the printed version - Trevor Noah is on the cover!

Kevin Uhrich, 21-year Pasadena Weekly managing editor, 1999 through 2020, died Aug. 23 at Kindred Hospital in Baldwin Park, at the age of 65.
