This is my home. It was completed in 1936. Every brick was hand cast on sight. I love this house even though it is a never ending cycle of upkeep.
I’ve tried to do some research on the style of home don’t have a solid answer yet. Any ideas?
And yes, there use to be a copper ‘N’ on the chimney. The man who built it was Howard Newton.

My wife and I recently bought our house, which was listed as being built in 1876, possibly earlier according to the previous owner. We’re trying to learn more about its architectural style and figure out how accurate that build date is. We’ve looked through old deeds and records, including one from 1919, but haven’t been able to find proof that the house was there at that time. There also appear to have been additions made to parts of the house at some point. Any thoughts on the style or possible build date would be greatly appreciated.

My fiancé and I bought a house built in 1895. While it is a total fixer-upper, we did stumble across this on our bedroom floor! We are excited about it, but are not totally sure what it is. Raised my children (and lots of cats) in this 1940's yellow house for the last 24 years; and it's time to repaint. I have been going crazy for over a month trying to find a color that suits but also feels happy like the yellow. I'm drawn to greens, especially muted olive greens, but when I put that on my house, it seems sad. Should I just repaint it yellow?

Our house was built in the 1880’s. It is an all brick home, with two floors, and a finished third floor/attic and a full basement. This little closet is built into the second floor bathroom. The woodwork matches the rest of our home, but I’m not sure if the house would have originally had bathrooms or not. It’s just kind of unusual and not convenient the way it is built in over the tub. I am thankful for the storage, though. Any suggestions on how to touch up the woodwork without completely refinishing?

What’s the worst shape a house has been rehabbed in this group? I’m contemplating, or rather we, doing something that could be really stupid or turn out amazing.
While driving to look at another house for sale, I stumbled on an old house in the woods and now we are on the hunt to locate said owner to see if she’d consider selling it to us.

Ballpark estimate?
Had to get a bunch of rod holes filled due to some water leakage. Was wondering what an estimate would be to drywall this? It’s about 30 feet in length and there are about 40 of these little boxes that were cut out. I received a quote from one company that was $3600 and then called the company that did the rod holes (and two cracks) and they were going to do it for $1200. I am just looking for a general idea of what is fair for this? Is $1200 a good price?

Rehung the drywall perpendicular to the joists.
With the exception of a blown out corner, how does this look? Hopefully the outlet box at the edge won’t be a big deal. I’d hate to rehang but I figured I’d get feedback before finishing the rest. I plan to stagger the butt joints. I had figured I can just alternate starting the board right to left, etc.
