Most asked question from actor to casting director: What is the secret to getting more callbacks/booking more jobs? I always start with the things on this list and add "How old are your headshots?" You would be surprised how many actors believe this list to be optional. And headshots should be once a year. Minimum.
n 2013 during an appearance on the radio show "Sway in the Morning," Perry said it took him 256 auditions before he scored his first gig.
RIP Luke Perry #keepgoing
These beauties began this journey by submitting themselves on a $200 music video. If you approach every project you involve yourself with as the most important project you will ever do, your talent and passion will take you places you could never expect.
While Harry and Meghan's names are still buzzing in the headlines, Jessie J looked reminiscent of a royal herself during her appearance on Thursday's (May 22) episode of 'The Late Late Show With James Corden.'
Hi!! I need some volunteers on 4/20 to help me register voters at LAUSD headquarters. It's the next phase of the #marchforourlives efforts to affect lasting gun reform and help make our students safer. Anyone reading this can volunteer. It's basically 12 to 5 in Downtown LA

If net neutrality is repealed on December 14, self tape auditions, casting website, and the way we do business will become significantly more expensive. Follow this plan to be counted before the vote. https://venturebeat.com/2017/05/08/how-to-protest-the-fccs-plan-to-dismantle-net-neutrality/

Screenwriters and producers reached a tentative deal on Tuesday, averting a strike that could have crippled TV and film production.
WAY TO GO @Gary Marsh and Breakdown Services!!! I got the following release today .....
Breakdown Services Transgender / Non-Binary Search Function
As an innovator and influential leader in film, television and theatre, Breakdown Services is committed to being on the leading edge of diversity, inclusion and breaking down barriers.
Actors now have the option to choose Transgender / Non-Binary on their Actors Access profiles. Subsequently you have the ability to search for actors based on this criteria. As an established Casting Director you can conduct specific searches for talent based on information provided by the actor and their talent representative. Checking Transgender / Non-Binary will not preclude talent from appearing in searches for non-transgender roles.
I am working on my favorite type of project at the moment. I'm looking at who the talent ARE as humans, not as performers or actors. People amaze and inspire me. I am speaking to a vet who has walked across the country to raise awareness for the 22 vets who commit suicide daily, I'm talking to activists and advocates for the homeless, for farm workers, for animals, for clean oceans, for clean eating. I'm talking to people like me with depression who have continued with their lives, being heroes in the face of the mundane, getting up, getting dressed, getting out and making a difference. Today I love humanity. I am reminded of my favorite poem by Sappho..."Day in, day out, I hunger, and I struggle" Here's to the human experience and all of her expressions!!
Are you a young talent with depression? I am working on a very interesting project where young people who suffer from depression and have found a visually interesting way to cope with it can offer their stories documentary style and maybe inspire someone else with depression to find a passion. It does pay. If this is you, please message me here. Feel free to direct others here as well. Of course it's all happening very quickly so do reach out as soon as you see this if you are possibly interested.
I don't have my headshot because.......
I'm late because..........
Can I start over?
My agent should have..........
Where am I supposed to be? (my favorite question in a busy casting studio)................
I hope the true love of your life is acting. That through love of your craft you expand your soul, push your boundaries, and bring understanding and community to the World through your expression of something you are not. #arthealstheworld #lovewins #withoutbeautylifeisempty
This is a tricky one. Workshops that teach you skills are legit. Workshops that ask you to "come prepared" not so much. http://variety.com/2017/biz/news/la-casting-workshops-charged-talent-scam-1201982958/

David Harbors acceptance speech from the SAG Awards
“I would like to say that in light of all that’s going on in the world today, it’s difficult to celebrate the already-celebrated Stranger Things. But this award from you, who take your craft seriously and earnestly believe like me that great acting can change the world, is a call to arms from our fellow craftsmen and women to go deeper and through our art to battle against fear, self-centeredness, and exclusivity of our predominantly narcissistic culture, and through our craft to cultivate a more empathetic and understanding society by revealing intimate truths that serve as a forceful reminder to folks that when they feel broken and afraid and tired, they are not alone. We are united in that we are all human beings and we are all together on this horrible, painful, joyous, exciting, and mysterious ride that is being alive. Now, as we act in the continuing narrative of Stranger Things, we 1983 Midwesterners will repel bullies. We will shelter freaks and outcasts, those who have no hope. We will get past the lies. We will hunt monsters, and when we are at a loss amidst the hypocrisy and casual violence of certain individuals and institutions, we will as per Chief Jim Hopper [Harbour’s character] punch some people in the face when they seek to destroy the weak and the disenfranchised and the marginalised. We will do it all with soul, with heart, and with joy. We thank you for this responsibility. Thank you.”
First seminar!! Here it is.

Adventures in casting for today......booked talent for today gets call sheet with 2pm calltime and THEN informs her agent that she has a singing gig that night and can't make her print job unless they rearrange the schedule for her. List of people I won't work with just got longer. Is there ever a reason ever for not properly informing your agent of your availability? EVER?
Working on a print job where we did the first round of casting off headshots. Narrowed each role to 2 choices and sent a request for selfies. Request sent through agent Friday @ 4:30. Pics were due today at noon. I am missing 2. One actor is at the zoo and will get them to me when he can. The other was at the studio all night and has just woken up and will look at request and get to me as soon as he can. What does that say to me about these two actors? Just because you didn't have to get in your car and come see me doesn't make this any less of a callback.
May the 4th Be With You
7 years ago Spike TV started showing Episodes 4,5,&6 and I was lucky enough to cast the promos. Star Wars characters came from Skywalker Ranch, including Lord Vader who we were never allowed to see out of costume or refer to as a man in a suit, always Lord Vader. Enjoy all three spots.

NOLA peeps. Come play with me Sunday
"I would like to say that French music and Francophone culture is making a resurgence in New Orleans, but the fact is it never went away. It just seems like things are getting more French in these parts lately. Sunday, a wide array of musicians will be performing at Cafe Istanbul NOLA for an afternoon of French music, dancing, drinking, and partying from 2 PM until 5 PM courtesy of SpeedUpTheTV..."
This is a first but it won't be a last. Good thing? Neutral? That's the way things are these days? Or the loss of actor jobs? Weigh in please.

Interesting take on the creative process
“I’m a pianist. I’m playing my last concert Thursday night. Then I’m taking a sabbatical. Some of my friends think I’m crazy to step away now, but I don’t want to become a two-hundred-concert-per-year performing machine. It requires too much efficiency. And the efficiency burns you out. There is a lot of pressure when you perform at Lincoln Center or Carnegie Hall. People pay for those tickets and you must respect your audience. If you’re piloting a Boeing 777 with four hundred people on board, you aren’t going to try new maneuvers. You aren’t going to have fun or experiment. You don’t have time to stay in your dreams or ideas. You need to step back from the public eye so you have space to grow. I won’t say that taking time off makes you a ‘better’ musician, because I don’t like the word ‘better.’ It sounds competitive. But it does make you less of an automaton and more human. It’s like exploring a new continent. Time off is a space where you allow things to happen other than the known.”
If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.
