None of my friends want to come to my wedding.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I just wanted to vent as I’m feeling very down and upset.

I’m from the uk and getting married in Greece in July. Invites have recently gone out and lots of my who I would call “good/best friends” are rsvp’ing no. I appreciate that it’s a long way to travel and it’s a big ask for people and we knew this would whittle down numbers, but these are who I would call my best friends. My “ride or dies” if you’d like to put it that way. People who I would do anything for. Only two of them are married and I’ve attended both of their wedding including traveling and accommodation. One of them I was even best man at his wedding. What’s worse is these guys have known for a long time we were having the wedding in Greece and have always said they were coming. It’s only when the invites went out that they have said no. Which makes it feel worse considering they didn’t have the decency to tell me before when they made that decision.

My fiancé has a lot of friends! She’s got 9 bridesmaids. Most of which I am good friends with their respective partners. None of the partners are going. This isn’t because they’re not invited this is by choice. All of her friends are making an effort for her and no one is making any effort to attend for me.

My fiancés best friend and my best friend are together. This is who I would have chosen to be my best man and who my fiancé has chosen to be maid of honor. They have decided that only one of them can go to the wedding. They have decided that the maid of honor is going to go even know me and my “best man” have known each other all of our lives and been best friends. His parents are even going to the wedding as they’re my godparents. They also know that I’ve been let down by all of my other mates yet still decided she should go instead of him. Im not saying I don’t want her to go but me and my fiancé both think that out of the two of them in this specific situation he should attend.

I don’t want this to sound like I’m being bratty or anything I’m just really upset about the whole situation and I feel now like none of my friends care about me. I’m upset that it seems like all of my fiancés friends are happy for her and willing to make the effort to attend the wedding and none of mine are.

My fiancé feels terrible for me and she’s cried numerous times when she found out my friends weren’t going. It’s not her fault and I appreciate how much she cares about me but she shouldn’t have to feel that way. Is this my fault for my choice of friends or am I a bad friend? I should be looking forward to this day. It should be the happiest day of my life and all of this has put a massive downer on it already.

I’m embarrassed and worried that she's going to have 9 bridesmaids and I’m going to have no one. Has anyone else ever had anything like this happen and how did you get over this horrible feeling.

There was an active shooter at my wedding

Just on here to vent until I get back from my honeymoon and can get in with my therapist. There was an active shooter not 20 yards from where my wedding was being held Saturday night, just as we had been served dinner. Someone ran in and shouted “there’s a shooter!!” Everyone scattered, someone was screaming “get down!”. It was absolute chaos… I got dragged into the bathroom with my sister, mom, best friend and cousin. My husband went to help and protect his family. I was so, so scared for him. I begged him not to go, but that is the man he is. My friend had a panic attack in the bathroom as we all held each other. Outside the bathroom everyone was laid out on the floor with their arms over their heads. All the kids were crying. I saw my cousin hiding in the back of a supply closet with her two young children. One of the other kids (who is dealing with a significant recent gun related trauma) was on the floor having a full blown panic attack. His mom laid on top of him, shielding him. The police came and handled the situation, thankfully no one at the wedding was hurt. We didn’t get to use the whole courtyard space I had spent so much time and resources to put together. Everyone was too afraid to go outside. We decided to finish the wedding but everyone was so shaken. Everything felt forced. No one wanted to dance or have cake. My dad didn’t get to make the toast he wrote for us. My heart is broken. I can’t stop replaying in my mind, the look on my family’s faces, how scared they were … My husband is amazing and for us it was never just about the party, but still. I’ll never get that day back … I just wish the memories weren’t muddled by this horrible situation.

Edit: Thank you all so, so very much to all for your kind words. I agree - this country is not okay. I didn’t even have to mention which country i am in, but of course everyone knew, I didn’t have to specify. I prepared for so many disasters on my wedding day but this never even crossed my radar. I am heartbroken.

A lot of people are suggesting we “rewrite” our wedding. I spent a lot making our wedding day perfect and didn’t expect to need anything leftover from our budget to “redo” our day. I’m listing my cash app handles on my page in case anyone wants to contribute. It would be an amazing surprise for my husband if I could plan a rewritten celebration. Of course i do not expect anything and am so grateful for the love and support from so many strangers. It means everything. Thank you.

Do I RSVP Yes?
My husband and I received a wedding invite for a friend. We were kind of surprised to receive the invite, bc we didn’t think we were that close of a friend to spend wedding guest money on. It’s a local wedding and they have accounted for our children in the invite, which I feel like is rare these days with the kid-free wedding c**ze. We’d love to celebrate them, but now I’m second guessing myself that maybe we’re in a tier of invite that maybe they’re hoping will rsvp no? I just went to brides wedding shower and it was a sweet time!

Edit- thank you for your amazing responses! Yes, I was over thinking it bc yes I am the problem haha. I live life to not impose, and I have to convince myself that I’m actually a genuinely fun and good person to have around. I’ve RSVP’d yes for my whole fam and look forward to celebrating a sweet love and dancing the night away with my two girls and husband 😊

UPDATE: Thinking of stepping down as MOH - her fiancé is making it unbearable

First, thanks all for your feedback which comforted me and gave me the confidence I needed to step down ASAP.

The morning after posting, I messaged the groom asking him to take a step back as he’s made me and the other MOH feel uncomfortable. Things escalated, he was being very defensive, listing everything he said/did pointing to me being in the wrong instead a finding a way forward and eventually apologized for making me feel uncomfortable. I did not respond to his apology. In parallel, I messaged the bride and we agreed to meet the next day.

In the meantime, the groom must have brought it up to the bride as she texted me letting me know she heard things became tense and that “we don’t all hate each other now 😝”. I replied that this is the reason I need to talk to her.

The bride and I met up yesterday evening. I told her that I was flattered to have been chosen as MOH, but in hindsight I should not have accepted. I explained that the situation blew out of proportions, and her fiancé crossed a line. He exhibited controlling behavior, and was down right disrespectful. I shared that I can’t be in a bridal party if I’m not being treated with respect and if I don’t morally support the relationship. I told her that this is not a breakup per se, I still want to be friends with her, but she deserves a MOH who can fully be there for the two of them. I also mentioned that the ball is now in her court as to how our friendship moves forward and if she still wants me there at the wedding.

Her reaction was so underwhelming. She was smiling through and saying it’s ok. She said that her fiancé talked to her about the situation, mentioning that things escalated. According to her, he was pretty shaken up (no s**t, I bet he forgot to mention he instigated all of it).

I’m not sure if I expected her to take accountability for her fiancé’s actions, but she did not apologize for what he said. Nothing. She seemed so unphased when I said he disrespected me: she did not ask about the things that were said, did not mention she would speak with him either. This speaks volumes to me; I wouldn’t want my friends to feel disrespected by anyone let alone my spouse. She said she understood my decision and she sort of expected it because she has never been in one bachelorette party that didn’t end up in drama (??). In terms of logistics, she had it all figured out - she asked me not to cancel any hotel room because her fiancé will officially be joining the bachelorette party anyway (he was initially supposed to travel with us but stay in a different accommodation with a friend).

Because of the heated situation, she opened up and said she doesn’t expect the other MOH to even attend the wedding unless there can be a resolution between her and the groom. I was again flabbergasted. I would have so many questions if 2 friends would have a problem with my spouse at the same time, and would consider not coming to my wedding because of it. I understand she is marrying this man and decided that her marriage takes precedence over the rest - fair enough - but I would find this suspicious and use it as an opportunity to dig deeper and get to bottom of the situation.

I reiterated that I’m there for her, just not in a MOH capacity. We left on good terms but I wouldn’t be surprised if this marks the end of a short-lived friendship.

I later called with the other MOH to inform her about my decision. Turns out she has also been thinking of stepping down.

It’s such a relief to be out of this mess. I’m not great with heavy discussions so I appreciate every one of you for pushing me to step down and speak to the bride ASAP.

EDIT: I cancelled the hotel room and let the bride know she would need to book her own rooms. She did not respond but I later received a notification that her fiancé kicked me and my husband out of the WhatsAp wedding group (that served as a save the date for the civil wedding). I later learned that the bride asked the other MOH to step down. She was also uninvited to the wedding.

Because it’s her birthday month, I should change our wedding date.

Not new but my first post. My (35M) fiancé proposed to me(34F) on my birthday in March. Best birthday ever by the way. I love him so much as he has helped me grow after such a toxic marriage of over 10 years. Currently we are stuck between 2 dates on when to get married. Either May 2026 or September 2026. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind just the two of us, our daughters, and immediate family (parents, siblings and my granddad) doing something small and private. This will be my fiancé’s first marriage so he wants a big wedding, since my first was in a restaurant, and he wants to “do it right this time”. I get it and I love him more than enough to have the wedding of our dreams. A friend of mine came today with numerous questions about the wedding that I didn’t have answers for as we haven’t even solidified a date. Reading so many posts, I should’ve known not to be free with details, but I told her the dates we were stuck between. She followed with, “Oh yea May is a much better month. Don’t do it in September because that’s my month. I celebrate my birthday all month long” I laughed but she looked at me with a stone cold expression saying she was dead serious. I told her that again, we had a lot of options to way so we weren’t sure. She said she’d talk to my fiancé herself to let him know. I was so baffled that all I could do was hug her and bid my farewell. All I could think was the audacity of her. These are the things I don’t want to deal with. I want the marriage, not the wedding and all the unsolicited opinions and suggestions, granted I know I shouldn’t have been so forthcoming with information. I want peace and for this process to be enjoyable. Would I be wrong to not extend an invitation whenever we do set the date?

More info: we met at church a few years ago and attend church events together. She’s very passive aggressive but I look pass it trying to see the good. My fiancé has really helped me to see how worthy I am of love and not to accept anything less. I’ve been told me numerous times from multiple people to part ways from her as it’s a one sided friendship. We only chat outside of church if I initiate. Still learning when to walk away.

My mom was 90 minutes late to my wedding. Will I ever not be mad about it?

My (40) mother (62) is famously late to everything, but has gotten significantly better in the last decade. She’s changed things enough that she’s never late to work. Often she is late to family or social events but only by 15-30 minutes — an annoying thing but rarely catastrophic, and not nearly as bad as the 2-3 hours late she used to be.

But still, ever since I can remember dreaming about a wedding, I have also been brainstorming ways to make sure my mom was on time. Like instead of daydreaming about wedding dresses, I was considering printing an entirely separate wedding invitation suite with a fake time on it 1-2 hours before she really needed to be there just to make sure she was on time. Ultimately, because she is so much better now about being late, I figured I’d just trust she could show up on time.

Throughout the planning process I told my mom she needed to be at the venue at three pm one hour before the ceremony for photos. She had nearly all of the daylight hours to do whatever she wanted and get ready at whatever pace she needed, as long as she was at the venue at 3. My sister (34) and her were traveling and rooming together and I made it clear to my sister that the greatest gift she could give me on my wedding day was to just do everything she could to keep mom on the schedule. My mom even bragged that she found a hotel only 8 minutes from the venue.

I told her not to bother with driving and parking on the day of the wedding as we’re in a dense downtown area, and to just take an uber from the hotel to the venue. I told my sister this as well and told her I would pay for any Ubers they ended up needing to take. And I made it clear that they needed to be there at 3 because of family photos and so they had time to dry off and chill out a little before the ceremony. I didn’t want anyone feeling rushed - I wanted everyone to be calm and present. Three pm was on every text and email over the last 7 months.

Photos were especially important to me because there are only 3 photos of my mom, my sister, and I together. One from 1992, one from 2002, and one from 2022. And none of them are “nice” professional photos - that was a luxury we could never afford. I love our wedding photographer and knew she would really be able to capture my mom, my sister, and I’s unique beauty. I was so excited for them.

I know weddings always run over schedule but I used to be a planner and I run a pretty tight ship so I wasn’t worried. The day of my wedding, the bridal party got ready at our place. We hopped in cars a bit before 3, and there was a little bit of traffic, but we got to the venue at like 3:10. Not bad. Right away we start taking photos with all of the family and wedding party groupings we could with who was there which was everyone … except my mom and my sister. At 3:50, we finish with photos and my fiancé (seeing how distressed I was getting) calls my sister and mom, and they said they were in an uber “20-30 minutes away”. At this point, guests are arriving and I’m literally hiding behind a coat rack.

My mom and sister show up somewhere between 4:20 and 4:30, minutes before the procession was scheduled. My mom made a beeline to me and started fawning over me and my dress. I was SEETHING. I quietly and firmly said to her that the ONLY thing I asked of her was to be on time for the wedding, and she couldn’t even do that and I was extremely hurt and angry because of it. She kept interrupting me about how somehow it was the uber driver’s fault, she had forgotten her necklace at the hotel and they had to turn around. And also, she didn’t know she was supposed to be here at 3. When I pointed out that it was in several emails, texts, and verbal conversations over the last two months+, she said “oh, I thought I needed to be here at 3:30”.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like, 1: that is just … the wrong time. That is not a time that appears on any schedule or text or email or invitation. She just made it up. 2: if she had been here at 3:30 (the wrong time!) IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE!!!! We could have had photos and you could have dried off from the rain and we would have had some nice moments as a family before this big life event!! But instead it’s 2 minutes until the ceremony and you’re just getting here!

Through out all of this, my fiancé was greeting guests, keeping an eye on catering who was running late setting up, and taking any quiet moment he could to come over and stand with be behind the coat rack and look me directly in the eye and remind me that it didn’t matter. We were going to get married. That is all that mattered. It was amazing to have him zero in on exactly what I needed to hear to remain balanced and not fully lose my mind while also addressing very real emotions.

The guests took their places, his parents and my mom and sister lined up, the wedding party lined up, I am at the very end of the line. I take a few deep breaths and focus all of my energy on being present and compartmentalizing my emotions as quickly as possible because the last thing I want is to be pi**ed at my mom during my wedding ceremony. I sneak glances at my fiancé and think about how handsome he looks. We process. We do the ceremony. Everyone cries. My mom does a reading and I just space out with a gentle smile to keep it together. Fiancé and I exchange vows and rings and kisses and are showered in thousands of tiny rainbow colored paper streamers. We run around the block in the rain and sob into each other’s shoulders with raw joy.

The rest of the night was incredible. Just joyful and sincere and hilarious and fun.

At the end of the night she tells me there’s cash in the card for us, and she leaves.

She’s been sending me messages making sure this messy situation with my dress doesn’t “taint my day”. Threatening to go “all mom on the dressmaker”. And I’m just like … still aghast? Like, you couldn’t show up on time to my wedding. The one thing I asked. You couldn’t do it. Why are you telling me how mad you are on my behalf because of something someone else did??

I think most people who grew up with a lot of trauma know that feeling of checking with yourself constantly, asking “did I do everything I could to make sure this didn’t happen?”. I try not to fall into that habit as an adult but it’s been four days and I’m just … at a loss. Should I have lied to my mom?? Should I have “tricked her” in order to make sure she was there on time? Should I have insisted she get ready with us in order to keep an eye on her? Like, why the f**k am I losing sleep about what else I could have done to make sure my ADULT MOTHER was on time for a thing she has known about for 7 months?? Why am I the parent in this situation?? And on my wedding day????

My bridesmaids (the best) have reminded me that I do not have to say anything ever to her if I don’t want to, especially because my mother is widely incapable of taking any kind of accountability. So like, what’s the point in saying anything to her? The only option is to figure out a way to heal from this without her.

She is a complicated woman but I do love my mom so, so much and am devastated this was her role in my wedding day. I truly hope someday this doesn’t feel like lead in my stomach. I know I have a great amount of responsibility in how I feel, so I’m trying hard to just work through this so I can get to the other side.

Ugh I’m sorry this is so long. I could write ten more essays on every that went right and was magical and perfect (like how my husband and I got secret ring engravings for each other and both chose the same thing????). Thank you for letting me vent

Do I send a Thank You card to the people who almost ruined my wedding?

My wedding was last Friday and it was amazing, the best day of my life and everything went perfect... almost. I had a dry wedding for multiple reasons (some guests have trauma regarding alcohol, our families aren't huge drinkers, the wedding only went until 11pm so there wasn't a huge need, etc.). The reception venue required we pay an extra fee and hire security if we were going to have alcohol on the premises as well.

Fast forward to the dancing part of the night and I noticed my cousin's wife was SLOSHED. She was constantly stumbling over herself, completely incoherent, and an overall mess. My sister spent the whole night trying to reign her in and keep her from making a fool of herself.

Found out later that not only did my cousins sneak alcohol in during dinner, but they door dashed more throughout the night and left the empty bottles on the floor under their table. Thankfully my brother-in-law found the bottles before the venue manager did so no one found out, but I am LIVID. Like, I expected someone to sneak in alcohol at some point because i understand people suck, but I thought they would at least be responsible about it and not act like spoiled children. These people are years older than me and in their late 20's for God's sake.

My mom was going to talk to them for me at breakfast the day after, but they ended up ditching and have ghosted us since. We messaged them about the situation but have received nothing in return. No apology, nothing.

Now my question is: do I send them a thank you card? They didn't get us a wedding gift either and while I was initially happy they made the effort to attend (we live in different states), after what they did I can't find it in myself to thank them for anything. Do I need to send them a thank you card? Or better yet, should I send them a card expressing that I was grateful they came but also let them know how upset I am? Or should I just not send anything?

WIBTAH if I stopped bringing my husband as a plus one to weddings we’re invited to?

My husband and I have almost been married for 3 years. He is my best friend and the best partner. We have a wonderful marriage and love doing everything together. He is more of a homebody than I am and doesn’t go out as much as I do. Since our engagement/marriage we’ve been invited to about 5 weddings. My husband has never liked attending weddings but has come with me to them because he knows how much it means to me to have him there with me. However, he always puts a time limit on us being there and we’ve been late to every single wedding we’ve attended because he took long to get ready. Of the five weddings we attended, we missed two ceremonies and almost missed a wedding entirely that was on a cruise. I generally don’t like being late to things and I think being late to a wedding demonstrates that we lack etiquette. At the most recent wedding we went to, I ended up going alone because my husband wasn’t feeling well and while I did miss him, I fortunately had some mutual friends at my table and wasn’t too sad about it.

So, WIBTAH if I started going to weddings alone without my husband as my plus one?

Help! Dress designer is requesting an extra $1500 for my dress due to tariffs.

I am having my dress custom made and signed the contract with the designer over a year ago on pricing. I put down a 50% deposit and will pay the remainder once dress is completed. Now she is requesting an additional $1500 that I did not account for in my budget due to an increase in production costs like materials, shipping and other things because of the tariffs on China.

All the materials should’ve been bought in January when the dress was started, right? (Aka before the tariffs started to really hit) It’s four months later and she is requesting more money a week before the dress is supposed to be ready. I feel like I’m paying for her negligence to order the proper amount of materials and it shouldn’t be on me to cover them. She claims she is still facing substantial losses even with my request of $1500.

What would you do? Would you pay the $1500 or request a bill from her proving the cost of the materials and only pay for materials? Thanks for all help :)

EDIT: My dress is not even close to being done, I saw pictures of it today and it’s maybe 60% completed. It’s being manufactured in China with my designer located here in the US. I texted her asking for a breakdown and she responded saying she will get back with me tomorrow. Also meant to say she has two weeks until the due date, not one.

Talked to my lawyer who read the contract - she said the designer must deliver the agreed upon dress at the agreed upon cost stated within the contract.

UPDATE: Spoke with the designer- the total increase in costs has gone up almost $6000 on her side which includes shipping, tariffs and additional labor. The additional $1500 wasn’t even for the tariffs, it was for the added labor costs due to the miscalculation of the time it would take to make the dress. The tariffs would be an additional cost split 50/50 which would be an additional $600 making the grand total closer to $2100 requested from designer. I asked her to provide me with invoice from manufacturer in China if she wants me to pay half which would be the $1500. If I don’t pay extra labor fees, I can get a full refund.

bride made guests pay for their own food at the reception... is this normal?

so a 'close' friend of mine is getting married and just sent out the invite with a little note that says 'to help offset costs, guests are kindly asked to pay $75 per person for their meal at the reception.' ngl, i was flabbergasted. i get weddings are expensive, but since when did it become normal to invoice your guests? feels like weddings these days are less about love and more like narcissistic flex contests with a price tag that keeps climbing. my salary's not crashing the party, but this feels straight-up awkward.

i'm honestly not offended, just broke, and wondering, am i an as***le if i say no just because i can't/won't spend that on dinner at someone else's wedding? or is this whole thing so far gone that saying no is justified? lmk if i'm missing something here.

Sister hates me after wedding

Hey everyone, I need some insight. I (38F) was a bridesmaid in my youngest siblings wedding recently, and now no one is talking to me.

My sibling (S) recently had a very small and intimate wedding. My husband was invited, however, it was a kid free event. We didn’t realize that it was kid free until we received the invite. My older sib (G) also didn’t realize that it was kid free. However, Gs kids are older. My child is ****** and autistic and we have no trusted people near by to watch him. S told us it was fine to bring my kid but there wouldn’t be a comfy place for him to stay/eat. I could tell it was a burden - so no problem; I’ll go solo!

Night before the wedding, everyone was chatting and reminiscing - and I asked S if she remembered the first time she ordered pizza (at my home years ago). She abruptly told me to stop talking. That she was upset my husband wasn’t there. I thought I’d surprise her by inviting my husband to come out to AT LEAST see her (about a 90min drive) and then he could go. Guess I overstepped and she freaked out. I take responsibility and apologize and go back to my hotel.

S’s wedding day was…awkward. No one really spoke to me. I helped S into her dress, did my duties, and then relaxed. However, the grooms sisters partner (late 40sM) told me to shut up while at the calm afterparty. (Everyone was having a nice chat). Still not sure what i said to upset him.

Now my sibling won’t speak to me. My husband and 2 besties say I am not in the wrong. My other younger sibling says that I need to back off but won’t tell me what I said or did to upset S.

I feel horrible - like I ruined the wedding. Some say no and some say yes. S doesn’t want to talk to me after some “feelings came up” and I’m 100% clueless as to what that means (other than the issue with my partner) what can I do?

I’m contemplating going no contact with all my siblings. Help!

I took care of S in her childhood, and I’ve been supportive throughout her life -I spent upwards of 5k on this wedding -I feel undervalued and disrespected; if something is wrong then tell me -for my own mental health I’ve deactivated all social media
