Watching everyone fight over the middle squares of this cheesy slab made ditching the weekend takeout plan totally worth it. It delivers all that classic parlor flavor without paying any delivery fees 🍕
The flaky pastry base puffs up thick enough to hold a heavy layer of crushed tomatoes and spicy cured meat. Baking it all together in one large dish creates the absolute best dark, chewy cheese edges right along the sides of the pan.
16 oz refrigerated crescent pastry dough
1 cup pizza sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
1 tsp dried oregano
Unroll the dough triangles and press them flat into the bottom of a greased rectangular dish to form a single crust.
Pinch the little perforated seams together tightly so the wet liquid stays on top.
Spread the red sauce across the raw pastry and sprinkle the dried herbs directly over the tomatoes.
Scatter the shredded cheese heavily across the dish and lay the meat circles flat over the surface.
Bake until the dough on the bottom sets up firmly and the top layer turns deeply golden brown.
Pre-baking the flattened dough completely bare for a short bit before adding the wet sauce keeps the center from turning out mushy 🍅
