YOUR FAV TRANSPARENCY QUEEN IS BACK AND WE’RE TALKING DJ DOLLARS 💸

Please note that I’m not encouraging impulse financial decisions and also not insinuating that you must make these purchases in order to DJ and/or be a successful DJ! I’m simply sharing a few financial decisions that worked for me and have paid off on my DJ journey.

Now let’s get into it 🙃

Earlier this year, I threw a free VIBE SHIFT beach party for my LA community. Bliss Beach came through with the most epic beach club set up, Sugar Babies Bake Shop created gorgeous custom cookies & I provided free food and drinks for everyone. The icing on the cake was my friends coming through and donating their time, energy, DJ services, film equipment, and so much more!

Will I spend $4k on another free beach party, no. But was it worth it, absolutely yes! I had the time of my life, made so many new friends, and the content was incredible. I’m working on a post to dig into the details on this soon, so stay tuned!!

I bought two 12 inch speakers and stands less than a month into DJing! Why? Idk lol

But hear me out..now 2 years into DJing, I’ve been renting these suckers out when I get booked to DJ. AND I pretty quickly made my money back, so this was by far one of the best impulse purchases of my DJ career.

My DJI OSMO and Sony camera purchases were soooo impulsive! Samuel Creager used the Osmo to film some of my Sequoia Set (check it out on YouTube) and I was obsessed with the footage. So I bought one pretty immediately after. SO WORTH IT because I use this to film all my DJ sets because they make it so easy.

And I bought the Sony because I saw Nneka Julia had one and I’m obsessed with her videos lol I got a little ahead of myself on this one, but it’s been useful as a second camera angle and for my long form YouTube DJ sets.

An iPhone is totally capable of doing the job, but I’m a filmmaker after all so I couldn’t help myself!!

My first controller, the DDJ-FLX4 was impulsive AF, but the perfect controller to get my feet wet. This is what I used for my first big DJ set with The Yearn music festival! This is also what I bring when I do travel gigs because it can easily fit in a ca

I made this mashup almost 2 years ago when I first started DJing, but never shared it because idk, imposter syndrome!?

I’m a house music DJ, but my roots are will always be hip hop and r&b because it’s the music I grew up on.

On my journey reading the ‘Artists Way’, I’ve been doing a lot of inner child work and sharing this is part of that process. Mixing two of my favorite artists, Aaliyah and Janet Jackson makes me feel happy and nostalgic AF, and I hope it does the same for you 🤍

In a world where the scarcity mindset runs rampant and everything’s a competition, there’s been nothing more fulfilling on this journey than supporting other DJs.

I’ve been part of a lot of different communities, but the DJ community has totally taken me by surprise. I’ve made more new friends online and IRL in this year alone than I have in probably the last decade. And I am sooooo grateful!

If you’re struggling to find your DJ community:

✨ Show up to someone’s DJ set
✨ Introduce yourself IRL or online
✨ Download, Listen, and support their music and mixes
✨ Find ways to collab! I love making content, so I offer to records people’s sets so they can focus on being in flow state
✨And my personal favorite - hype someone up in the comments or in their DMs! I’m telling you, this stuff goes a long way!

There are so many more ways, these are just a few. If you haven’t already, challenge yourself to do at least one of these this week! 🫶🏾

Last Thursday at themirador was one of my favorite DJ sets of the year 🥹

3 hours of deep house, deep cuts, soulful, vibey house music.

I ate incredible food, had one of the best espresso martinis of my life, played music that people loved but weren’t expecting, and best of all, had family with me.

Right now, I’m not focused on more gigs, but more *aligned * gigs, and this was exactly that. I uploaded all 3 hours of this mix on my SoundCloud for your listening enjoyment 😌 Link is in my bio 🫶🏾

VIBE SHIFT is officially here 🤍

VIBE SHIFT was created out of my deep passion for bringing people together through house music and dancing.

Because no matter what happened that day, week, or even month, I’ve always believed in the power of music, movement, and community to shift your energy.

And with that, our first VIBE SHIFT is happening in collaboration with Superbloom this Saturday, September 5th from 1-7PM at Santa Monica Beach. A full beach day with music, movement, and community. Link in bio for tickets.

I happen to think that people who start over in their 30s are not only chic AF, but incredibly courageous, bold, optimistic, and resilient AF.

Because only pure passion, delusion, and drive could make someone go after a DJ career at 35 😅

This is all to say that two years ago I could barely beat match and last week I played a 5 hour set at Circle Bar without pre planning every single song beforehand. This might be easy for some, but for me, I needed all 2 years to get to this point of growth 🌱 and I’m not afraid to admit it.

So yeah, I think starting over to become a DJ in my 30s is some of the most chic s**t I’ve ever done 🤣
