Beachwood Sparks announce two shows with Scotlands Belle & Sebastian, currently on their tour playing Tigermilk & If You’re Feeling Sinister in the entirety with the other hits and faves. Tigermilk was an influential record on early Beachwood Sparks and both bands are approaching 30 years of making music together.

During Memorial Day weekend in 1973, the First Annual National Association of Rock Writers’ Convention rolled into Memphis, Tennessee, dragging in its wake a who’s who of critics out to drink their fill on Stax Records’ dime. Around midnight at Lafayette’s Music Room, one of the media set’s pre-eminent hellraisers wound up on stage. Sh*tfaced, Richard Meltzer gripped the microphone and yelled: “Well, puke on ya momma’s p***y! Here’s Big Star!” Now that’s some U.S. history!!

Oh so PRETTY!

I’ve been an unofficial Memphis music ambassador now for, oh, about 53 years. Since Big Star’s first performance outside Memphis in 1972. With their ambassador grant program, Music Export Memphis made that official by supporting Those Pretty Wrongs tour dates in the U.S.,UK, Australia and now Ireland!

We are now in Dublin to open for The Big Star’s Quintet on Thursday night. We play our own show at the Kilkenny Roots Festival on May 2. We crank up again opening for Robyn Hitchcock in San Francisco and Santa Cruz. Then our own show at the Hipnic Festival in Big Sur.
The extra support from MEM has been incredibly helpful in making these possible.
