Every homeless person has their own story to tell about their journey to the street.

LOS ANGELES, CA – MARCH 4, 2025 –The public is invited to join us for Go to The People, the inspiring story of Dr. Jim Withers, founder of Operation Safety Net, which provides vital medical treatment to Pittsburgh's homeless and is recognized as one of the nation's first full-time street medicine programs.

The screening of Go to The People will take place beginning March 21 until March 27, at the Laemmle NoHo7, 5240 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91601 with 3 showings per day.

Go to The People is a documentary by award-winning writer and filmmaker Jeff Sewald about one man’s crusade to bring health care to the worlds homeless! The film is inspired by childhood memories of Dr. Withers accompanying his father, a family physician, on house calls, and his mother, a nurse, on home-care visits. Dr. Jim Withers began providing medical care for Pittsburgh’s unsheltered homeless population in 1992.

“When I decided to make this film, Dr. Withers told me that I would be changed by it, and he was right. I learned from Dr. Jim that every interaction with homeless people must begin with listening to their concerns and, sometimes, just hearing their stories.” -- Jeff Sewald, film’s producer-writer-director.

“My work with people living on the streets came not so much from my sense that they needed me, but that I needed them. What I do is modeled on the house calls that I made with my dad. To him, every patient was a person first. His visits were a means of connecting with the needy. I have come to see health care and health-care training as a giant machine that serves its own purposes rather than those of the people who are ill or suffering.” -- Dr. Jim Withers.

Over 230,000 Canadians have signed a parliamentary petition calling on the prime minister to revoke Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship for his role as a senior adviser to Trump, who has said he would like to make Canada “the 51st state” of the United States.

The petition claims Musk has “engaged in activities that go against the national interest of Canada” and has “become a member of a foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty.”

Musk was born in South Africa but he has Canadian citizenship through his mother, who is from Saskatchewan’s capital, Regina.

The petition is set to close for signatures on June 20.

President Donald Trump promised on the campaign trail to abolish the department — something he can't do without congressional approval.

Last week, Trump signed another education-related order to expand school choice, directing the Education Department to issue guidance to states within 60 days about how they can use federal funds to boost school choice programs in their states.

School choice has long been a cornerstone of the GOP agenda, with a significant number of Republican-led states freeing up more funding in recent years for low-income families to send their students to private or charter schools.

President Joe Biden said Friday he is commuting the sentences of more than 2,000 people convicted of nonviolent drug offenses, cementing his legacy as the president who has issued the most individual pardons and commutations in U.S. history.

Biden said in a statement that commuting the nearly 2,500 sentences would help "equalize" sentencing disparities.

"Today’s clemency action provides relief for individuals who received lengthy sentences based on discredited distinctions between crack and powder co***ne, as well as outdated sentencing enhancements for drug crimes," he said.
