Nothing in the wild dies of old age. This ancient hippo bull was a perfect animal to take, he was missing part of his tusks, scarred from years of battles, and all by himself- presumably kicked out of his pod. A well placed arrow is a much more humane way to go than to be eaten by a pride of lions or attacked by a leopard. This hunt will be shared on YouTube and hopefully will continue to spread awareness of the conservation efforts set forth by hunters in Africa. This awareness will lead to more anti poaching efforts and more widespread understanding of the delicate balance that hunters play a roll in. Nothing went to waste from this animal, even his skin and fat were utilized. We are mounting everything from this trip too which provides additional local jobs and domestic jobs. I cannot wait until we share the video with y’all! 🦛🦛🦛

What a way to end our season with the oldest deer on the farm! We’ve been trying to kill this buck for 3 years. Josh missed him as a 6.5-year-old in 2021. Then in 2022, both Josh and I hunted him hard late season as a 7.5-year-old, but we never got a shot. This year, he showed back up again late in the season as an 8.5-year-old, and the chess match was on again. I hunted him hard and got my chance 12 days ago. He was 45 yards broadside, and I didn’t think he was getting any closer, so I took my shot. When he heard that bow go off, he hit the floor faster than any deer I’ve seen, and my arrow landed high non-lethally right in his backstrap. I was heartbroken, to say the least. We knew it wasn’t fatal, but we looked anyway with no luck. But 4 days later, he showed back up on camera! A sudden rush of hope swept over me, knowing he was still alive and knowing I might get another chance. But the season was coming to an end quickly. We hunted hard over the cornfield we planted, but with the high temps, we had no luck. Finally, with 3 days left in the season, we got a huge amount of snow! Literally over 11 inches. If we were ever going to get a second chance, this snow was what we needed. After 2 horrible days of blizzard conditions and 40 mph winds, it all moved out on the 10th, which was the last day of the season! This day felt right. As we sat, it felt like every deer on the farm came out, but not him. Hope started to fade as we only had 10 minutes of light left. But then, we looked up and saw a huge-bodied deer coming through the timber. Our hearts pounded as this big-bodied deer cleared the trees. It was him!! We couldn’t believe it. We got everything ready as he started eating and moving closer and closer. At 28 yards, he was close enough. I drew my bow, settled my pin, and took my shot! As I shot, he took a step, causing my arrow arrow hit him back. However, he quickly bedded down only 50 yards from where i shot him. So we waited until morning and came back, and he ended up being dead only 30 yards from where we saw him bed! It wasn’t perfect, but we did our best, and I’m incredibly proud of this buck and very proud of the season we had!

We have so much left to share from Africa so we will be sharing it mixed with deer content! Starting off strong with my HIPPO 🦛 • A moment I’ll never forget, becoming the first woman to ever harvest a hippo with a bow. Keep in mind, Josh had been hunting hippos for 3 weeks and never even drew his bow. So the hippo hunting was very difficult. So this goal of being the first women in the world to harvest a hippo was looking more and more impossible. But, i still wanted to try, We set early one morning and checked different areas that had hippo sign. These were all the same areas Josh had been checking for 3 weeks with no luck. However, on the day I checked, by the grace of God and some luck, a rogue old bull moved into this swamp that night and we spotted him laying down close to the waters edge. This was my chance, this was my opportunity of a lifetime i had to make it count. Slowly we low and slow closing the distance. 200 yards turned to 100, and then finally 50 yards. My heart was racing. Knowing in the back of my mind, this is part of the dangerous 7. Knowing hippos kill more than 3,000 people a year. Knowing, if i dont make a perfect shot, our lives could be at risk. Never before had i been so stressed before going fully draw. So much was riding on me being perfect, the emotions were overwhelming. I quickly snapped out of it, the stress and anxiety turned to pure focus and determination. We still needed to be closer. So inch by inch we moved closer. One wrong move everything could go wrong, but we made zero mistakes as we got all the way to 20 yards. As i was about to draw my bow, he stood up and started feeding and heading to the water. I drew my bow quickly, settled my pin and he already got to 37 before he finally stopped. I was ready, my mind was racing by my hands were steady and i ran my shot. The arrow felt like it flew in slo motion heading toward the hippo. We all watched as my arrow flew true and hit him square in the lungs. My pe*******on wasn’t great but it was good enough. He rushed into the water, but within seconds, blood sprayed from his nose 4 ft into the air. It was in that moment, we all knew I just made history. -

This is the first picture I ever got of “Boone”. He showed up on Dec 17 2023 on my little 68 acre lease. My jaw hit the floor and my excitement went through the roof! On this piece, I had the farmer leave me 1/2 acre of standing beans and it was my only hope that he would eventually find them. About a week after I got my first picture of him, I was checking cameras and he found the beans; but it was in the middle of the night. And for the next few days, he kept hitting the beans but in the middle of the night . But checking forecast, I saw a high pressure system coming and the temps dropping about 10 degrees, I knew I had to go and sit, just for the off chance he would daylight. My call was right! 30 mins before dark, he showed up and the rest is history💪🏼
