RIP DJ Dan. THIS is the tape that started it all for me. I bought this (yellow) at DMC Records shop on Melrose Boulevard, shortly after attending my first rave, Shiva's Erotic Banquet in 1992, in LA.

My yellow j-card version eventually snapped from over-playing. I bought a second copy with a pink j-card.

This is crazy upsetting news, still processing. I'm just learning that DJ Dan passed today.

I'm saddened by the loss of so many important people to the LA scene in such a short time. Michael Cook and Reza Gerami also left us recently, both far too soon.

DJ Dan's loss hits me particularly hard. Just typing this feels surreal because DJ Dan really was one of my earliest inspirations and access points into techno, breaks, and raving in Los Angels.

One of the first mixtapes I ever bought – perhaps THE first first time I got – was DX2 – a collab between Dan and hardcore luminary Ron D. Core. Ron's side was his style of fast aggressive techno; Dan's was the more funky variety of techno and upbeat breakbeat.

In my mind, the DX2 mixtape SET THE STAGE for the 90's Los Angeles rave scene.

Dan and Ron were the preeminent underground and rave DJs in the early 90's. If you saw their name on a flyer, you were guaranteed a good time.

Unfortunately, I didn't get many opportunities to record DJ Dan over the years. The main live set I have of DJ Dan was his iconic set at Funky Tekno Tribe, recorded November 11, 1995, which took place outside the Grand Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.

I didn't know Dan personally - I always admired him from afar. I followed him on Facebook and enjoyed his upbeat commentary.
DJ Dan's passing represents a major loss to the Los Angeles rave community.

I worked directly with Reza Gerami back in the day, 1996-1997 timeframe. He actually saw the value of documenting our events and made sure I got compensated for my services, which was rare back then.

And, just within the last year, I reconnected with Reza. We even hinted at the possibility of collaborating on a special project in the future.

I danced to his dj'ing, just a few months ago. So this feels like quite a shock.

I didn't know Reza personally, but I did know him as one of the greats. Iconic, legendary, founding promoter of LA's original rave scene.

Hanging out with him recently, he was totally down to earth and genuinely friendly. But in my mind, I was hanging out with a living legend. I remembered the history, aware he was at the center of so many significant LA events.

Reza was dj'ing and hosting events right up until the end. He was a real raver, and a true believer in PLUR. He will be missed. RIP

Check this out! Beat Non Stop was an INSTITUTION for the LA rave scene for a number of years, during early 90’s. Located in the heart of the scene on Melrose Boulevard, Beat Non Stop was where we went for 12” singles and imports, dj mix tapes, and clothing and accessories. And lots of flyers. I bought many mixtapes at that location, especially from LA legends Doc Martin and Steve Loria.

Beat Non Stop was on the circuit of Melrose record stores that pro DJ’s and amateurs alike would hit. Glorious days.

Legend Stephan Bodzin headlined an intimate outdoor party last night next to the famous rose garden at Exposition Park, Los Angeles. Right next to the Coliseum, BMO Stadium, and USC campus!

LA legend Jesse Brooks brought a rock-solid set starting with modern breaks then shifting into slightly funky tech house. This was a warm summer evening at Woodley Park near LA. Woodley is a favorite spot of LA's free party scene, characterized by grassy slopes and massive oak trees. Really the perfect after-after-AFTERS (running from 12 noon to 9-10pm Sunday). 🚨 New Release! RANGER TRUCCO live set from DayTrip In The Park yesterday at LA State Historic Park in Downtown Los Angeles! Ahh summer 2025 is in full effect! Two weeks ago EDC Vegas. One week off. Then back at it with two back-to-back events. RASA at Santa Monica Pier Saturday, DayTrip on Sunday. There's no stopping now, we go hard. The crowd is a little noisy in this one but the the party vibes are peaking off the chart. People were just loving this. Talking dancing drinking socializing having fun. I have to hand it to the LA underground/nightlife crowd right now. Ya'll are doing well with the PLUR idea. Please keep it going. PLUR is the ideology that keeps our movement healthy and strong. I dream of such things. But last night was no dream. And here is the evidence. Sound quality is unreal - it sounds like you are there, with all the bass!

PLUR vibes in LA are high right now, let's keep it going. I felt it EDC, I felt it last night. There are always a few who are pushy, inconsiderate, or can't handle themselves. But generally speaking the energy and positivity in the scene are strong. Shoutout to the lovely folks I met on the floor, loved dancing with you!
