IMPACT-ICU | VitalTalk

The ICU is probably one of the toughest places to find yourself in as a family member or support person.

That's why we're so proud of this 9-part series of videos the MOPED team produced for Vital Talk and the IMPACT-ICU project.

These videos will help train ICU nurses on navigating the difficult conversations they have with their patients' loved ones each day. Facing advanced and end-of-life care decisions in the ICU isn't easy for anyone, but as many of us know, successful communication can make a HUGE and critical difference in a family's experience.

A series of 5 interview pieces and 4 simulated conversations make up the series, with support from the Moore Foundation. They accompany a breadth of learning materials, courses and other resources.

Please share if you know someone who will benefit from them!

Thank you to Dr. Wendy Anderson, Dr. Anthony Back, RN Kathleen Turner, the rest of the team at UCSF Medical Center and our entire cast and crew! Doug Thomsen Adam Behrmann Vanessa Avery Ali Hart Kaitlyn Cornell

This woman's unwavering commitment to her work is inspiring.

"I'm not a quitter; I do not give up. My mother at 60 finished school to be come a nurse; she never gave up and it just wasn't an option.
And I never allowed it to be an option.
To me that's the easy way out.
And life is not easy. It's hard, no matter what it is that you want to do -- it's hard."

As arts funding is being threatened, the working-starving-artist crisis is also a threat to public discourse, empathy and courage-building in our communities.

Artistic voices need to be heard.

"How can your script be approved by an artistic director if you can’t even get approved for a credit card that will let you buy a MetroCard to get to their office? If you are a literal starving artist, how do you not run out of steam as you juggle multiple day jobs while making art, which you’re not making money from? There are only so many hours in a day."
