So fulfilling to see this important project make it to The New England Journal of Medicine, to inform the conversations that so importantly accompany the critical decisions around end-of-life care for families.

Grateful for the opportunity to produce in collaboration with the committed team members behind the real work: from the Divisions of Geriatrics (E.W., K.Y.M., A.K.S.) and Pulmonary and Critical Care (L.S., J.A.F.), Department of Medicine (W.G.A.), University of California, San Francisco, the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (E.W., K.Y.M., A.K.S., J.F.), and the San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (W.G.A.) — all in San Francisco.

The ICU is probably one of the toughest places to find yourself in as a family member or support person.

That's why we're so proud of this 9-part series of videos the MOPED team produced for Vital Talk and the IMPACT-ICU project.

These videos will help train ICU nurses on navigating the difficult conversations they have with their patients' loved ones each day. Facing advanced and end-of-life care decisions in the ICU isn't easy for anyone, but as many of us know, successful communication can make a HUGE and critical difference in a family's experience.

A series of 5 interview pieces and 4 simulated conversations make up the series, with support from the Moore Foundation. They accompany a breadth of learning materials, courses and other resources.
