In the Qur’an, the figure of Gabriel (Jibrīl) does not engage in direct self-identification as a messenger or angel of Allah. Nowhere does he proclaim, “I am Jibrīl, sent from Allah.” Rather, references to Jibrīl occur in the third person, with Allah - or the Qur’anic narrator - describing his role as the bearer of revelation. This narrative structure contrasts with that of the Old Testament, where the Angel Gabriel explicitly introduces himself and affirms his divine commission. Such self-identification serves to remove ambiguity and preclude the possibility of mistaking him for a deceptive or malevolent entity.
