Honored to be acknowledged by the University Library as a faculty recipient for the publishing of Major Label Mastering: Professional Mastering Process (Routledge/Focal Press). As of fall 2022, the texbook is a course adoption in the CSPUP Music Department at for MU4280 (Mastering) and MU4270 (Recording and Mixing), and in the University Library’s permanent collection. outlines my Grammy®, RIAA Gold and Platinum Award-winning mastering approaches and is also the only published record of !

It is also on additional/recommended reading lists at the music production department, , and . If you are not enrolled in those programs, I regularly offer a ten session hands-on mastering workshop (DM if interested!) that utilises the book and reveals my approaches, principles and the secrets of in-depth professional mastering!

Such fun to master newcomers —who bring their -game on new single ! I’ve previously re-mastered projects from tape for both , and and this band hints at that legacy. A bright future awaits if they keep up this level of intensity and songwriting…!

Reminiscing about 2022 projects…earlier this year I had the honor to master the Expanded Editions of the groundbreaking albums and for . These collections have 16 to 18 bonus tracks each that include alternate versions, alternate mixes, unreleased tracks, live show performances and instrumental tracks ( anyone?). It’s a fun mastering challenge to sonically fit these additional recordings audio fidelity-wise into the original albums. Being immersed in these two iconic albums and their various bonus tracks reminded me that the cleverly fragmented psyche of , whose held-hostage superego allows for to speak what most only think, and to like his life depended on it, and the rotating cast of archetypes that appear and re-appear ( , and even ) make the improbability of and taking on this unknown battle rapper all the more compelling! Standout bonus tracks are ( version) and (Original Demo Version). Adding some pride to these projects…I also hail from the Detroit metro area. Check ‘em out!

As a 6th grader at school (now a park sadly) in my home township of we were fortunate to have a music class a few times a week. In one of these classes, remarkably, our music teacher presented a fantastic audio retrospective of rock ‘n’ roll. This was remarkably impactful, we would listen to early rock ‘n’ roll records on one of those portable turntable/speaker combos in a latched case with the speaker(s) in front. She began with blues and country and soon began playing and of course en route to and beyond. As my career path would later include recording/mixing and ultimately mastering—and developing audiophile sensibilities—this was my first introduction to . What we did in that class, I still do today…carefully listen. I still remember when she played ” and exclaimed the salacious line “kiss me baby….mmmm, it feels good!” My buddy and I looked at each other and snickered the way only 11-year old boys can…with a kind of bemused wonderment. Controversies and reckoning aside, Rest in Peace Mr. Lewis…may tickling the ivories from beyond be filled with peace and also expressive abandon…

with . “Just like every cowboy sings a sad sad song…” In December of 2005, then Capitol Catalog Producer enlisted me to work on a Poison retrospective compilation. This of an album is chock full o’ radio rock staples that hep cats pretend not to know the words to! I had just come off of re-mastering “Look What The Cat Dragged In”, “Open Up and Say… Ahh!” and “Crack A Smile…and More” in November 2005, so my Poison chops were 🎶. I used the original ½” analog tape sources except on “Shooting Star” (not available). “20 Years of Rock” was certified Gold straight away, a testament to well-crafted party rock! and signed my promo copy twice as it circulated between band members after a performance in Studio A 🙌
