Technique: As the rice fields begin to dry up, fishermen look for areas with deep mud or small remaining puddles of water. They reach their hands deep into the mud or into holes to feel for the fish.
Common Fish: Catfish and Snakehead fish are the most common species found, as they can survive in the mud for long periods without much water.
Precautions: Fishermen must be skilled at locating the right spot to grab (usually the head or the gills) to prevent the fish from slipping away, biting, or stinging them with sharp dorsal spines (especially catfish).
