🔹I see time and time again producers and artists trying to solve problems with their music by adding sounds and elements. Or even when writing a new song they are stacking too many drum samples and synths...

🔹Instead of stacking a ton of sounds or layering a ton of melodies try simplifying, whether that means getting rid of some stacked drum samples or taking away a layer of synths, you can actually highlight specific sounds or ideas a lot more

🔹Also a great tip is utilizing silence. Silence is extremely powerful in music, you will never for get a great pause or stutter!!

What’s the first thing you’re doing when you sit down?! 🤓

🗝It’s important to set the mood up for your session as soon as you walk in the studio.

🗝If candles and burning sage are your thing that’s totally great but I’m talking about the technical side

🗝When you’re working in a new studio you want to get familiar with the setup asap so you can get to creating quick and naturally. You don’t want to be the guy holding the session up because you don’t know what channel the mic is plugged into.

🗝You’re also going to want to set up your recording template in your DAW, make sure you sync your beat to tempo and find the key of the song

We pride ourselves in the gear that we have chosen for our studio. There are some familiar pieces like the and also ome more obscure ones like the STC-8

-Everyone has their unique taste in hardware which helps drive your own style

-BUT just because you have a bunch of hardware doesn’t mean you are going to sound good

-You need to spend time with each piece of gear and learn the ins and outs of how to drive it

-When I first started the studio I would buy one piece of gear, master it, and then move on to the next piece. That way I knew which tool to choose for every situation that came up

-To sum up it is not the gear that produces a great sound but the the person that is driving it!!

-Here are a few of our mics from the locker

-A lot of people have forgotten about the art of mic placement and creating unique combinations of mics for a single sound source

-You can create massive width and depth from subtle changes in mic placement

-A really cool mic technique that we have been experimenting with lately is throwing a large diaphragm condenser as a spot about 8ft away from the drum set pointed at the snare, then overdriving it w the EL9 and slowly blending it in with the overheads to add extra saturation and color to the overall drum sound

Here is our infamous vocal chain! ⛓⛓ 🔑

-There is an unlimited amount of options to choose from when you are choosing your hardware for your vocal chain

-We have a ton of different options here that cater to all different kinds of voices and styles but our main vocal chain is pretty legendary

-We start with the refcard going into the 1084 and top it off w the cl1b

-Each piece of hardware in this chain compliments one another perfectly, the manley is bright and transparent which goes into the 1084 adding beautiful saturation and finally topping it off with the cl1b that Levels out your gain as well as controlling the top end that is added by the mic

-This chain has been made famous by Artists such as and many more

Your entire studio revolves around your speakers 🔊 🔊 🔊

-Being able to listen to what you are producing and recording ACCURATELY is so important

-Now I’m not saying you need a $10k monitor setup, I am saying that you need the KNOW your speakers.

-You need to know if they are exaggerating your lowend or making your vocals stick out too much so you can compensate for your mix

-In Studio A we have 3 pairs of monitors so you can get 3 instants of what your mix will sound like to your listeners.

-They are all controlled by the Monitor ST which makes it streamline and easy to switch between all of the monitors so you can make edits to your mix on the fly without the downtime of having to plug and unplug new speakers

-Also did I mention the Monitor ST doesn’t color your sound at all?!

Bringing Pop Punk back w the legend 🤘🏽🤘🏽

-For this session we used a stereo pair of refcards for overheads which captured a super bright high-end and suprisingly amazing reinforcement for the toms and kick.

-The manleys were run into our pair of EL-9s w a ratio of 8:1, mixing the compressor section at 50% to give more punch to the drums while taming the brightness of the cymbals

-Definitely recommend the manleys as drum overheads, just remember to throw the pads on or it will be extremely hard to get your gain staging right

Camera speed! 🎥 🎥 🎥

-We had an amazing time hosting a commercial shoot for a brand new plugin company

-This was the first film crew that we had since the covid outbreak so we had to keep the number of crew down to only essential members

-Everyone had their masks on (most stylish masks I’ve ever seen btw) and practiced social distancing and the shoot went off great!

-We would love to hear how YOU GUYS in the music industry are dealing w covid and the strategies you guys are taking to keep working safely 🤘🏽🤘🏽
